  1.

Not much is happening with new donations to PCR so I have created this separate item on the club''s  forum. Already been in the April's issue of Low Flying and on the club's website but to my surprise it does not generate as much donations as I had hoped.

To make a donation is easy. Simply click on the following link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/montecassino-2022 and follow the instructions.

  2. Just had a look at the club's forum and it seems that several PCR challenges are put in the general chitchat section and disappear from regular view when these are not updated. The chapter for these challenges is currently called 'Helping others' but this description might be confusing to most members. Perhaps a separate section in the drag down menu with a clear reference to PCR might attract more views. Something to consider.

  3. Probably not the right place for it but I will give it a go anyway.

I am looking for an original Vickers (or Ackland) tripod for display purpose. I guess that within the club there are members who collect this kind of stuff, have perhaps a Vickers tripod hidden in the shed or garage gathering dust. Or perhaps you know someone who is willing to part with a Vickers tripod or tripod parts? If so, I very much like to here from you via PM.

I know that several companies sell these (as complete set with the MG) but most of these dealers are either on the other side of the Ocean and/or think that these tripods are made of gold instead of brass.

  4. Surprised to see that no entry has been posted in this section for quite some time.

Anyway, time to do a bit of cycling again. Whether it will used for raising money for the good cause depends on the feedback I get from members. Did a return trip to Speyer (Germany) last year which only meant 1500 km in two weeks. Nothing fancy so I did not bring it to the attention of the members trying to raise money for NtL.

Return trip to Paris will be approx. 1200 km in 2 weeks. Again nothing special but I will give it go anyway. Will it raise any money for NtL? Only time will tell. BTW, will be leaving in a couple of days.

  5. Hi, for some reason I did not receive this year's April issue of Low Flying and the club is not able to provide me with a spare copy (already out of stock).

Anybody out there who might be able to help? Never missed an issue in all these years and hate to see this year ending up incomplete. Much appreciated.

    Cheers, Jan

  6. I have meanwhile returned from my trip, after cycling 2515 km in 3 weeks, safe and sound on Sunday the 28th. September

(and back at work on the 29th.). Tight bit of planning. Not a holiday I would plan again that late in the season:
too wet, sunset around 19:00 hrs., cold nights, wet grass and empty campsites. Also a lot of B&B and hotels were
already closed for the season at those moments I could do with a dry place to spend the night. Weather improved
somewhat when I entered Czechoslovakia but roads and cycle paths got worse. Had to change plan and cancel destination
Prague. Simply not enough days available to do the return from Pilzen to Prague so went from Pilzen directly to
Regensburg. Glad to left that country after a couple of days again and back to Germany to complete the last part
of the trip And then the rain started again.

Interesting trip, but would have preferred better weather conditions and couple of days extra to enjoy the ride more
and even visit a museum or two.

  7. So sorry I had to disappoint so many club members who supported me with a generous donation for NtL in 2012 but pleasantly surprised by the positive reactions at the club’s forum to stick with the donations made.

Two years have passed since then and the legs start to itch again. Unfortunately I have not saved up enough personal leave days to do the Monte Cassino trip, so it has to be something manageable within a 3 week period. Not much choice, Denmark, Scotland and Ireland are not in the picture because of the greater change of poor weather, and most of France has been covered with previous trips.

With that in mind I have decided to do a return trip to Prague instead. I know, a 2400 km trip is not the same challenge as that Monte Cassino trip, but it will to do for the time being. And the Monte Cassino trip is not forgotten but needs to stay on the back burner for the time being. Not to waste an opportunity to raise more money for NtL I have meanwhile modified my exiting Justgiving page and changed the topic to Prague 2014. The word is out now and hope to raise a bit more cash for NtL with this short trip. Initially planned for August but just managed to sell my old house (after 1.5 years) and moved out last week (feeling a bit knackered now but never mind). Cycling trip to Prague is therefore moved to September 2014.
