I'm fundraising to support Prostate Cancer Research (see also April issue of Low Flying)!
New challenge for Summer 2022 is a return trip on my bicycle from my home town in NL to Monte Cassino in Italy (approx. 4500 km - 2800 miles).
Monte Cassino is situated 150 km South of Rome in Italy (one needs a goal) to be completed in 8 or 9 weeks. The route will take me via Germany and Austria to Italy and probably on the way back with a small de-tour via Switzerland following the Rhine route back to NL.
Sincerely hope to break my personal fundraising record as this will be the 6th. or 7th. time I do a bit of cycling to raise money for the club's main charity. As always I will do the burning of calories (and lose some of those extra Covid pounds).
As a small token of my appreciation I will send a personal postcard from Monte Cassino to each person who contribute £ 20.00 or more to PCR (by that time I will be half way).

Many thanks for your support.
Done.
Jonathan
PS: We rode the Rhine downhill in the heatwave of 2019. Great trip.
Thanks Jonathan. Much appreciated.
Cheers, Jan
Donated.
Out of interest why Monte Cassino? My grandparents and uncle live in Cassino, so curious to know. Lots of military history in the area, though much of the town was rebuilt by the Americans after WW2. The very regular road pattern always confused me as a child visiting!
Good luck with the ride!

Much appreciated.
To answer your question: I have always been interested in WW1 & WW2 history and choose Monte Cassino as destination because it has been on my bucket-list for many decades. Hope to visit both the Monastery and the surrounding places of interest.
Cheers, Jan
What an incredible journey! And in aid of a good cause too. Donation made.

What date are you setting off on Jan or are you already en route?
Current planning is the 3rd. week of June (weekend of 18/19) depending on the weather condition (hate to start in the pouring rain on the first day).
Cheers, Jan
