  1. David,

The Archos doesn't have lanc capability. Recordings have to be started/paused/stopped from the main DVR itself unless you buy the archos helmet cam kit.

I went for the RF Concepts camera pack in preference to the Archos one because it seemed to offer a better quality camera and I wasn't fussed about the the remote control capability.

  2. Alan,

Your approach sounds like it will be the ultimate solution 😬 Unfortunately, I don't have the rear pickup points so my effort wasn't as effective. I Look forward to seeing your new and improved car at Penn (although I may not make it this month).

  3. I wasn't happy with the idea of using the floor plus channels to support the seats. I extended the seat rails to pick up on the chassis cross member just in front of the seats and added some additional support to the bulkhead behind the seats.

    There are some photos here

  5. Stu,

Do you happen to have a photo showing how you have mounted your microswitch rigged to the belt tensioner pulley? I have a microswitch sitting at home, but haven't worked out the most elegant way of mounting it yet!

    Thanks in advance.

  6. Ran A021Rs for several years, but switched to A048Rs (Soft fronts/Medium rears) last year. The A048Rs are a huge improvement IMO both in the dry and (mildly) wet. The 48s seem to break away much more progressively and the overall grip level is significantly increased. Turn-in is now improved beyond all recognition, but without compromising the balance of the car through the remainder of the corner. The 48s have managed to survive 4 trackdays with a surprising acceptable wear rate.

*thumbup* for the 48s on both road and track for me, but I guess I still need to try a set of CR500s...

  7. I recently switched from 185X60R13 A021Rs to A048Rs all round. After much delibaration, I eventually went for soft fronts and medium rears. It's safe to say that I am delighted with the results 😬 The car still feels well balanced but the frontend feels a lot more pointy and inspires considerably more confidence on turn-in.

  8. Well in case anyone is interested:

After attending trackdays at Brands GP and Rockingham I am hugely impressed with 185X60X13 A048Rs all round on my 1.6K Superlight using Soft fronts and Medium rears *thumbup*.

The car felt fantastic and the additional frontend grip inspired confidence to push hard.

Oversteer and Understeer could still be provoked as required and the balance remained good.

I was also extremely impressed with the performance on a (mildly) wet track where the A048Rs seemed more progressive than the A021Rs and reached a useful operating temperature far more easily.

Last of all, I reckon I still have enough tread left for a couple more trackdays before they become too worn for road use!

  9. Mine is a '97 as well. It originally came with a Ford input shaft and AP clutch. As a result of problems the gearbox was swapped by Caterham, but they only had a spare 6-speed with an input shaft suitable for a Rover clutch at the time. It soon went back to be swapped for a gearbox with a Ford input shaft and an AP clutch...

  10. Mark,

I have experienced standard Rover clutch and AP race clutch in my 1.6K Superlight (also a very long story).

My overwhelming preference is for the AP race clutch despite the slightly heavier pedal effort. I found the action much more positive and the car far easier to launch quickly once I had grown accustomed to it's agressive nature.

The Rover clutch did not work at all well on my car with reverse being very difficult to select when hot.
