  1. I was timing it with the engine off so the 5-6 seconds was for the pedal to retract back before it stopped. Whether that would be back to idle is a good question I need to try I guess. I'll take the pedal off completely and see if there's anything untoward there. It's odd though that it was fine a few weeks ago and now it isn't. ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  2. Have taken the cable off and that moves freely. I've got a spare and put that on and the same problem occurs so it's not the cable. The accelerator pedal is definitely a bit stiff/sticky but I've used a gallon of WD40 and whilst it's freed up a bit it's still not snapping back into position...it takes about 5 or 6 seconds from full throttle position to retract. It could be bent but it's been sat in the garage for a few weeks and was fine when it was put in there . ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  3. Thanks! The spring on the black quadrant is fine and moves back to its original position perfectly. It's the cable directly as it goes into that part that has the play in it...probably about an inch or so. I'll try taking the cable out and seeing if it sticks at all. Thanks for your help. ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  4. I started the car yesterday for the first time in a few weeks and the throttle cable is sticking. It was dark when I was looking yesterday and I'll investigate further today but it appeared that the accelerator pedal was not 'springing' back. Revving the engine using the 'thingy' at the opposite end of the cable was fine but there was a lot of play in the actual cable itself where it entered the cable housing. I couldn't see a spring on the accelerator pedal so is it the cable itself that makes it retract? If so, do I need to just remove the cable and lubricate it? That'll teach me for not using it! ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  5. Details here here. Can provide a better picture and more details if required. ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  6. Ah yes, that'll have been us!! One of the few stretches of motorway we did at the end of some tight twisty stuff. 😬 ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  7. Thanks for the help guys. I'm not thinking of selling in the immediate future so residual value is immaterial really. I'm not so hell bent on extra power that I'm going to spend the £2300 that CC want for the Supersport upgrade but I could perhaps spare a few hundred if there was a more cost effective alternative wich, it sounds like there might be. I'll have a chat with the folk at DVA. ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  8. It's a completely standard 140BHP 1.8K built in 2003, no mods whatsoever - does that help?! ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  9. Hopefully a simple question.... Currently a 140bhp 1.8 K.....what's the best route to add an extra 20 horses? Thanks, Ian. ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  10. On behalf of my brother who has a Sylva Striker..... 1600cc X-flow required, as close to standard (unmodified) as possible. Just engine required, no ancillaries. Cash waiting and he will collect. If anyone has anything appropriate, please contact me via BlatMail in the first instance. Thanks in advance. Ian. ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  11. The LED display on my odometer has started playing up. Actually, it did it on the way to Le Mans and has continued since. Occasionally the LED display scrambles then comes back then disappears completely before coming back again. It also randomly switches between the total mileage and the trip mileage. Anyone encountered similar issues and know of the problem? ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  12. The car, wheels and tyres are unchanged since new so it must be just a case of inaccuracy. I'll certainly be using the Road Pilot in future, even if it's for no other reason than to determine how fast I'm going! ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  13. Finally got round to plumbing the Road Pilot into the seven at the weekend having had it in the tintop for several months. The speedo in the tintop over reads consistently by 3mph at 60-90mph. Yesterday in the seven, with the speedo reading 80mph, true speed was only 72mph . Strange thing was, it got more accurate the faster I went! The whole thing was a bit random really. Are they all this bad? ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  14. Update.....car has been to James Whiting who has been diagnosing my overheating problem. Having bled the system and ran it, he can't find anything wrong and it's doing everything it should be doing . That's good really so I'm picking it up tomorrow (MOT pass permitting) and have been advised to give it "a spirited test drive". Say no more! 😬 😬 😬 Fingers crossed it was just a loose expansion bottle cap. ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
  15. Car was recovered home yesterday on the back of a flatbed after losing all its coolant on the M4. Have topped the coolant back up and there's no obvious leaks. Oil level is fine and there doesn't appear to be any ingres of water so early fears of head gasket might be wrong. It's still running incredibly hot, or at least the temperature gauge is indicating it's hot, rising rapidly up into the red when I turned it off again. Any clues? It's a bog standard 140BHP 1.8 K-series. Ian. ------------------------------------------------- The main problem with common sense is that it's not that common!
