  1. cheers everyone, i'll have a word with my regular tyre dealer and see what he can get his hands on and at what price then if he's well over the top i'll have a word with camskill. don't get me wrong i have fun on the track, but would like to go through a session without being lapped, don't know if this is because of a lack of: grip, power or just that i'm not a good enough driver. probably the latter see you at cadwell, hopefully by then i can discount grip. thanks again Dave
  2. Thanks for your comments The car is a roadsport with clamshells so not ideal for the track, hence this tyre change is to be an interim measure before i trade it in for a more appropriate car. To that end i will have a look around for a local source of stunners. thanks again Dave
  3. I am looking to replace my 16" Michelin Pileups. most of my mileage seems to be done driving to and taking part in track days, bearing in mind i don't fancy changing my wheels but would like to have a bit more confidence with the level of grip when i'm on the track what tyres would you suggest. My investigation so far has come up with: Toyo T1-S Stunner Scudo Avon ZZR Avon ZZ3 any other suggestions or recommendations would be gratefully received. Thanks Dave
  4. I've just had a new ECU fitted and mapped on the rolling road, I get lots of popping from the exhaust on overrun which sounds great, but what if any are the downsides.
  5. Dave, Thank Mick and Janet again for me The fuel tank would not have been removed to install the roll bar or carry out a service. Check the connecting plug at the fuel pump side of the tank and have a look at the inertia switch on the front bulkhead. is the inertia switch in the same housing as the reset switch? Is your fuel tank breathing properly? We had a look at that tried to start it with the filler cap off What makes you so sure it is fuel starvation that brings it to a halt? I think it's fuel starvation because just before the engine dies you can hear the fuel pump stop working Check the battery... always helps. If it is an intermittent fault in an electrical system it is always good to make sure the basics are right. will do now i'm at home will check that i'm getting a good earth thankyou for all your suggestions
  6. it's happened twice now, last time was yesterday at croft track day. Car drives fine for about 70 miles, (which occurred during the 2nd session of track day 50 miles there and 8 or 9, 2 mile laps. thanks to everyone who helped me especially mike and janet who got me home). then car just dies due to fuel starvation, wait about 15 minutes during which fuel pump doesn't prime at all and then the fuel pump will buzz for a shorter than usual time when i turn the ignition on and then run for only about 20 seconds then stop hence the engine dies again, this happened all day. however after a night in the garage go out to try and start it this morning and it starts first time and appears to be running fine again, went out for a half hour drive no problems. will have a longer run tomorrow and try to be close to home at between 60 and 70 miles driving distance to see if it happens again. then i will be sure when i ring the garage on tuesday to book it in for further investigation. has anyone come across anything like this before on a 1600ss and if so what had ended up causing it. the first time what on the way back from a service, during which i had had fitted the new track day roll bar so i assume that the fuel tank had been removed which might have caused the fuel pump to be knocked. any ideas will be gratefully received Thanks Dave
  7. Thanks All so it could be that bouncing through the pothole triggered the cut off and my resetting it cured the problem. lets's hope that's all it was thanks again Dave
  8. What does the rubber covered button attached to the bulkhead behind the ecu on a k series engine do? Yesterday on the way back from a service car ran fine for over a hundred miles but on the last stretch car got a heavy jolt going over a pothole. shortly afterwards it cut out. after a couple of minutes wait, on turning the ignition if i heard a click from the area of the ecu it would start and run for about a hundred yards then cut out again, indicating to me fuel starvation. eventually made it home a hundred yards at a time. This morning i thought that I must have knocked something loose so went around the area of the ecu checking connections at this time I pressed this rubber covered button in addition to resetting the immobiliser. Anyway the upshot is that it appears to be fixed, runs ok now except it doesn't seem to want to rev as freely, won't easily go past 5000. hence wanting to know what the button does, As you probably appreciate I am not a mechanic and would appreciate being told what else i should be checking. Thanks Dave
