    A Rare Opportunity

We are offering for sale our Lotus 7 chassis number SB 2488, 1969.

It is green with polished aluminium body, flared wings. The chassis is painted grey as period. However to allow club track days it is fitted with a tall fia roll bar and 4 point seat belt anchorage, bits supplied by Arch. It has been to Le Sept a number times and more recently to Cadwell Park shortly before  the  60th anniversary. Dunlop alloys are shod in yoko 21s.

The car is fitted with a Twin Cam, built and serviced by Bruno Schaffner in Switzerland, Bruno is known in Formula Junior, Historic Lotus and Ginetta racing.

The gearbox is 3 rail Ford 4 speed from period. The back axle is Ford Escort but with LSD and light metal nose differential.  The suspension is more or less period but with adjustable shock absorbers.

The cockpit is little changed, bench seats but speedo and rev counter updated.  Red steering wheel.

There are a few spares, full set of wings, gearbox bits.

The car was imported to Switzerland in 1998 where it still lives.

If anyone is interested please contact us, we can supply pictures and more details. The price is to be discussed as we have no idea of the value, but fair offers will be considered.

  2. Does anyone have the old-style low-backed fibreglass raceseats lying around that they don't need anymore? (Those with the 7 in the middle).

We're in the U.K. for the next week so could collect.

    regards

    Naomi

  3. They can be interchanged, but areas to watchout:- depending on which block the TC was built on you might need spacers under the engine mounts. clutch plates can be the same but the pressure plate maybe different requiring a flat faced clutch release bearing. the biggest difference is the width of the head and carbs can be a problem of fitting the bonnet.
  4. Mechnical or electric fuel pump? Either way depending on how long the car has stood the float chambers have to be filled, obvious really but can be quite a time with mechanical and of course weakens the battery. If mechnical no need to pump the throttle better to keep foot off. Once you have weighed up how much you need for filling the chambers stop turning the engine, unfortunately this can only be down to experience. If electrical wait till pump changes note. Then 2 or 3 pumps and then take your foot off the throttle. Try starting with foot off throttle and only press down once engine is turning well or catches. ( Hondas are easier ? 😬 )
  5. These terms normally refer to Ford 4 speed gearboxes. The 3 rail or 1 rail refers to the number of rods used for gear selection inside the box. 3-rail normally have a separate bellhousing, 1-rail commonly has intregal bellhousing but there are exceptions. 3-rail is the older design.
  6. Looks nice what is the thickness of the ali? Will/Have you fit(ted) mirrors to the ali? The ali is extended to the centre tonneau fastners, are these still press studs?
  7. The engine number on a twin cam should be stamped above the engine mount on the right hand side under the carbs. The numbers quoted don't look familiar to me. I thought engine numbers started with a letter.
  8. As summer has only just arrived have you considered asking Kumschick for one, would get you on the road quicker perhaps. Our sevens are not so modern and don't have the local contact for this up-to-date engineering 😬. Geoff
  9. I would also take the valve cover off and pour oil down the push rods and onto the rockers. The cam and followers are only oiled by splash from the crank turning. Run the engine up to 2-3000rpm soon after starting to ensure this happens.
