    Tuned TwinCams!!

What's mods did u have to get 170 Eugene? I don't want 190bhp but wouldn't mind 140/150bhp. :) don't really Wana do anything internal. Just ignition and throttle bodies. If that would get me into the 140/150's I'd be happy. But yes it's the ford bottom end :)

    Tuned TwinCams!!

Who here has a tuned twink? If so what have you had done and what power are you seing? Most iv seen/heard of is a 189bhp twink but don't know the mods. I only ask as I'm interested next year, to completely do away with the Dellorto carbs and lumenition ignition and go with the modern throttle body's with suited 3D ECU etc. I'd be interested to know what sort of extra power this should give!? At the mo my twink stands in it's standard vegantune spec (126bhp). Crossflow Tall block (1598cc) sprint cams and bigger pistons (I think - RS1600 pistons??) et etc. Recently rebuilt and dyno'd at a healthy 127.5bhp - now has unleaded conversion done too What's yours!?
  3. Well I got it all back together an took it out to hartside for a test run ( its basically on my front sort step 😬 ) car ran ALOT better, no misfiring, backfiring and didn't cut out once! So It was defo down to that lose black wire. Happy days. But I do think I'm suffering from the carbs being on to tight. Iv herd that the petrol can 'throf' if there to tight? Car slightly holds back around 3-3.5k, is this the correct symptom for this?
  4. Ok great, hopefully it will just be that. I would of put it all back together today but I had abit liquid welding to do on the carbs so need to let that set 1st. Will report back tomorrow and see if solves the problem :) fingers crossed!!!
  5. There's 3 wires which come out the dizzy. Black red and blue. Along these wires Theres a plug inbertween the dizzy and lumenition box. I pulled it apart and the black wire on the dizzy side fell out the socket. Fixed it now but I'm assuming this could of been the cause to my car misfiring and cutting out!? What do u guys reckon?
  6. Ok so I have my dizzy cap off. Looking for signs to show a failed trigger switch with my Lumenition ignition. (I was told the trigger switch is known to fail causing misfires and cutting out etc) Are the signs visable to the eye? Everything seems good, no broken or weak wires, chopper looks good etc etc. Should I strip down the dizzy completely? What am I looking for? I was going to order a new powerspark conversion to replace my current old one which originally replaced the older points. I'm currenty just having a look before I do so to see if I could resolve the problem myself. Thanks.
  7. Graham - just a couple questions regarding the MJ. Barr the trigger wheel, all is there, i wont need anything else to complete this MJ ignition? just fit it, set it up and away i go happy days!? also, im running on dellortos with my twincam. i see its a 'Weber Throttle Position Sensor' you have, will this not fit my dellortos? Thanks, Piers.
  8. Is this a tigger switch!? here If so, if I bought this and replaced the faulty one should this not solve my problem? Or is it more complicated than that!? Sorry for being a retard. Piers.
  9. Cheers guys, I'm at abit of a loose end at what options best. Cars not reliable enough to use with current ignition and I was planning on upgrading the whole thing to 3D ignition. But can't affor that just yet. So I have a few options, - find a 2nd hand temporary lumenition (with trigger switch), easy plug in and play for now, - just replace it with a brand new (older type - non 3D) ignition like aldon above and forget the 3D route all together, - just wait, save and miss this months Curborough event ☹️ to get a 3D ignition. Spoke to Redline and they say the lumenition has a common fault of the trigger switch going. I think that is what has happened to mine. Graham - how easy is it to get a trigger switch? How much were u thinking etc? Jonathan - would this solve my problem as in the trigger switch which may have gone :S also, how much etc? Piers. 10. Ok looking at buying a new lumenition ignition for my 1979 Caterham/Lotus super 7, seing as my current one has gone doolally. There are a few on eBay but I'm confused to which one I need? Do I need the FK116 model?? Will a slightly different FK model not work etc? will this work? (looks the same?) Bit of advice would be great Thanks, Piers. Edited by - PSJ on 8 Aug 2011 20:43:08
  11. As above, mines lost it's marbles so need another one ASAP. Piers.
  12. Right, been and took the 7 to a local garage today and the exhaust popping/backfiring is due to a hole in the exhaust, were the exhaust goes 4into1. The misfire and Cutting out is down to the Lumenition ignition box. The Distributer/coil pack and wires all seem fine, can't find any faults with those parts. So I'm on the hunt for a 2nd hand Lumenition ignition box to fit and see if it fixes the problem, just until i can afford to fork out for a proper 3D ignition. Anyone have one?
  13. 😳 WHAT!?!? 😳 iv just had the cylinder head rebuilt less than a 1000 miles ago.. If worst case, would this be down to the guy who put the engine back together or the guy who refurbed/rebuilt the head? Piers.
  14. Yea they should be balances fine but I will check out how tight/loose the Dellorto's are onto the inlet. Have a play about and see if that changes things. Will keep you lot posted 😬 thanks for the help.
  15. You can hear the 3rd cylinder carb spit and hear the exhaust backfiring, But why? Only started happening on the way home one night and seems to slowly and gradually getting worse?? (Hope link works ) Any ideas to what the problem could be??? I have cleaned main and air jets in carb 3/4 still no difference. Also can't see any loose bolts or ruined gaskets around the exhaust manifold Thanks, piers.
