  1. Paul, are the rims sold already? Thx for info, Friedhelm 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  2. And? Sold already? Still hopin' and following up from Tokyo. Keep us updated... Thx. Sayonara, Friedhelm 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  3. I've just managed to open the pics - they seem to be the same ones as I have! If still on sale: I'll take the two rims. 😬 Thx, F. 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  4. Do you still have them? Are they straight and didn't have a crash? If so, I will take both. Please send me the pics for confirmation: friedhelm.engler "at" de.opel.com Cheers, Friedhelm PS.: I am actually on business trip in Japan (having limited access to e-mail), but will be back in Germany on wednesday.. 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  5. Adam, have had the same idea: Relocation of engine to manage a better weight distribution front to rear and a lower centre of gravity. My TwinCam sits now 5 inch further back and 2 inch higher in the S3 chassis. There is no need for a power bulge for the engine on the low LOTUS bonnet (only the Webers sticking through in a big way). This gives me the possibility to lower the car as much as I want. The wet sump and bell aren't the lowest points anymore, that is now the little chassis bow under the gearbox... Since there is now lots of space under the hood, the radiator moved way back inbord between chassis and engine, shortening the water hoses by half a meter and is adding to the much better weight distribution. Go for it! 😬 Cheers, Friedhelm 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  6. Live-axle?? Great stuff! Go for it! A real seven gotta have it!! Ford axle lighter than Dedion, but a standard one, even without LSD is still on 55 kg!! Has somebody the weight of an Ital?? Is anybody out there, who modified it to a five link set-up? Pics or link available?? Any experience for improvements with rose-joints on trailing arms and/or rear dampers?? Ta, Friedhelm 😬 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  7. ...have had contact to: http://www.brakedrum.co.uk They are able to manufacture a copy of a english axle (or Ital/Atlas, if you want) brake drum in alloy. The advantages are better heat transformation, much less fading, and a weight saving af about 1 kg per drum in comparison to the original iron item. They are all hand made with a cast iron friction ring. The price will be approx.: 250,- Pounds + VAT + shipping per drum! A discount of 10% will be offered, if we are able to bulk order 10 sets. Sounds rather expensive in relation to a disc brake conversion... Still anybody interested?? So long, Friedhelm 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  8. ...change the alternator to a 50A Nippon Denso (2,6 kg). Lighter by min. 1kg! Get rid of your battery (another 1-2kg) - 14Ah bike battery is fine and much lighter and fits next to the standard alloy fuel tank in the most rearward and lowest position possible, co-pilots side of course. I am running this setup since years without problems... Cheers, Friedhelm 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  9. ...how does this 5 link arrangement look like? Does anybody have a few pics available? Unfourtunately, I don't have yet Low Flying. Thanx, Friedhelm 1969 S3 TC Hillclimb Special
  10. ...more web info for VISTEON beltdriven 12V Starter-Alternator "SpeedStart 12": Starter up to 3kW, Alternator ca. 20% more efficient Detailed info: www.visteon.com Code for "VISTconnect": 1isg2awo Happy surfing, Cheers, Friedhelm
  11. Hallo Marius, just passed my local scraper. There are endless lightweight Nippon Denso (or "BRISE", if you want) alternators available. It seems almost all smaller cars are using japanese supplier for this item. Just choose the one with the best braket position for your aplication. Don't waist your money on a part which you get almost new for pocket money... No digging required - a well sorted scraper has nowadays all details in his computer (incl. milage!). Good luck, Servus, Friedhelm
  12. ... we've started researching already for the Valeo starter/alternator. My collegues at the OPEL/VAUXHALL Technical Development Center in Rüsselsheim may have some more detailed technical information and/or a contact person at the Valeo Development Center. If this item is already in production and on sale, we should be able to get hold of one or some more... As soon as we get the spec, we'll keep you informed. Anybody interested?? I would guess - NO! 😬 😬 😬 Have a nice and sleepless night, Cheers, Mille-Schwarzfahrer
  13. ...4.7kg! No alternative? Should I'll go and see my local scraper? Better to close the thread. Anyway, thx for your help and recommendations, keep you posted. Cheers, F. 😬 😬 😬
  14. Thx Chris, cool website, nice products! Worth to give 'em a ring. They might be able to manufacture us a few copies of the iron drum. Let's see, I'll check out... About four sets would be already in the queue. Who else? Ciao, Friedhelm
  15. ...starter or alternator? The lightest and smallest Brise/Nippon Denso alternators are around 2.5 kg. But how about your starter motor? Lucas lump of 4,6 kg as well as mine??? Lets get rid of it! But which replacement? Ciao, F.
