The damper is fixed independantly from the wishbone.

2000 so has the current wishbone and damper mounting points. I has a 1996 model previously with the old mounting points.

I have about 140mm clearance at the front just behind the bolts where the chassis changes from square to round. Increasing the ride height even by 10mm won't gain me much damper travel. The dampers have extensions on them and are mounted inverted. Its wide track so I guess this is correct but it allmost seems like the extensions shouldn't be fitted but then I'm not sure if the platform would miss the wishbone? It does seem strange and I 40mm nominal damper travel befor the bump stops come into play is impossible as it stands! Something can't be right?

I have switched to 13" wheels with A48R's and spent a fair while setting up the suspension. It’s wide track suspension. I have about 70-75mm under the sump and about 15mm rake front to rear. The springs and dampers are from a superlight and have adjustable platforms. The springs have green paint on the bottom face. The thing that concerns me is the small amount of damper piston rod showing from the damper body to the rubber damper bump stops. It’s not a lot. I haven't measured it but I don’t think it’s a lot more than 10mm! The damper has a rubber bump stop on the piston rod but it’s quite large and again without measuring it I would say 50mm. It’s wasted in the middle. I can only think that the rubber must be being compressed a lot of the time on bumpy roads. Can I cut down the bump stop or remove one half of it? This would seem to me that the damper is then doing the work and not the rubber. I could increase the overall ride height but would prefer not to. Any thoughts?
  5. Having just bought a new set of wheels and tyres I need to have a bit of a clear out. My garage is looking a bit like a tyre depot! On Piston Heads Caterham Wheels 4 x 6"x13" K&N Minator Wheels with Yoko 032R Tyres £140 Pretty good overall condition but some kurbing on the outer rims. Actually these are in better condition than my 14" Minators on the car at present! SOLD On Ebay Avon CR500 Tyres 4 x Used Avon CR500 Tyres 175/55/R13 I bought these tyres only a few weeks ago but with the new set of wheels and tyres these are not now required. All have between 4.5mm and 5mm of tread so have had little use. I was told they had been used a for a couple of wet track sessions. On Ebay Yokohama A-021R Tyres 5 x Yokohama A-021R Tyres 185/60/R14 2 of these are unused and still have the nobbly bits and 3 have been used. The used tyres have 3.5mm tread depth in the centre and 4-5mm on the outside treads (the new tyres have 5mm) Pick up from Bedfordshire Edited by - smutly1 on 9 Jul 2012 12:46:34
  6. 2nd dibs please. Email to follow
  7. I started off with a cheap(er) Draper trickle charger but regretted it after frying my battery. These chargers give a constant trickle charge so if you don't keep an eye on the battery water level you run the risk of drying it out, I did so bought an Optimate and have never looked back. These chargers check the battery condition and only apply a charge if required.
  8. Paul, No communication! I'm guessing you have changed you mind?
  9. Paul, Can you send me your email address and I will send some pictures.
  10. Sorry, I don't want to split. This would make selling the remaining parts difficult to sell.
  11. Tim, I'm not exactly sture what an over the wipers version is. This one when fitted leaves the wipers in front of the Stanchion.
  12. I have 2 Brooklands Aeroscreens and a Stanchion for sale. The stanchion is drilled for the screens and center and side mirrors. I don't have the mirrors. They are in very good condition with only the odd mark on the stanchion. I would prefer pick up as postage of the stanchion may be difficult due to its size and shape. £150.00 Email me for pictures
  13. Anyone? Springs, Dampers does anyone know?
  14. Similar to to posting by Chris but some specific questions I have recently changed my Caterham and now have a 1.8 Roadsport with various mods. This was the late Paul Marriotts car, ex area organiser, and long standy good friend. Sadly Paul left us last year so somethings about the his car and the modifications are difficult to research and now I wish I paid more attention in our many Caterham conversations! My intentions are to continue to improve the 'Beast' as he called it. I will be using it almost exlusively on road. Suspension wise I know the springs and dampers where changed. I'm not sure when exacltly but these were one of the later mods from memory. I think they where used units from a member? The car drives well but is not great over the bumpy stuff. I have what I believe are the original standard units but on the car at present are: Adjustable platforms all round. Front springs - Unknown make 170mm free length and 9.2 Wire diameter with 9 coils. The ground ends are at 180 degrees to each other (forgot to measure the overall spring diameter last night. There are no markings. Front Dampers - Bilstein 1201836 2169M0 I don't know about the rears in detail yet as I will have to remove on but the springs look like progressive andthe dampers are Bilstein The ARB is Blue 9/16" which I think is to stiff for road use. I took the ARB off the other night and I cant tell a big difference in roll but it is less violent (feedback through the steering wheel) althought still not great. I have checked the camber angles and found these to be too much and unequal on the fronts 2.5 and 2.0 I will check the tracking and set to parallel initially. I have 2 spare front springs (maybe the originals) which are 190mm free length and 8 mm wire diameter with 10 coils and the ground ends are more or less in line with each other. They have green paint on the ends. I also have 2 x dampers not from this car 6052169M000 and 1 x damper 0600B36 2169M1 Loads of info but essentially looking for advice for: 1, Anyone know what the current springs are? 2, Whats the difference between M0 and M1 Dampers and M000? 3, What are the 'Green Springs' 4, The sump clearance is 95mm with 14" wheels but this is with the front springs compressed by 21mm with the adjustable platforms. This leaves about 20mm off damper piston showing. If I reduce the ride height (I think the wishbones are not quite parrallel) wont this a) increase the stiffness and b) reduce the available damper travel? 5, What is the best set up for road? 6, Orange ARB or adjustable? 7, Rear ARB - Do I need one? 8, 13" or 14" wheels I have both or 15"? 9, Camber angle fronts? 10, What about alternative springs and dampers - worth considering and what ones? Loads of questions and I guess loads of different opinions but hopefully I can establish what I already have and what way to go to make more improvements to the beast!
