I ended up getting one second hand.
Whilst I was looking though, these guys https://exmol.com/ said they would be able to make one up. At the time the cost would have been £120 ex vat for 1, £75 each for 2, dropping via several steps to to £40 each for more than 10.

I've raced like that and it's been fine. It will depend on how soft the suspension is though (i.e. how much roll you get)

as per the subject. The car is 2012 vintage.

The CANbus was definitely silent when it was watched passively (it caused much headscratching). When we got the CANalyzser to make some noise on the bus, then we got RPM back, but only RPM - the conclusion seemed to be that the ECU seemed be working on a "if there is no one else on the bus to receive it, why would I send data" basis.
If you get any more than that, I would be very interested in how...
-
A while back one of the data logging hardware manufacturers attached a CANalyzer to my car (2012 Sigma) in order to work out what info was being published to the bus. The answer was nothing, unless another live device was on the bus too (we turned acknowledgement on to see that), in which case the answer was RPM only.
If, however, you used the MBE cable to the OBDC socket and the MBE software, then there was rather a lot of data covering all sorts of useful stuff.
It may be that the MBE isn't using CAN for that? Or requires it to be explicitly queried?

From my experience it isn't about the quality of the surface on track vs road, it is more that race cars have their pads changed far more often than road cars and so the solid pipe ends up getting a lot more abuse just from that.
Not so many years ago (I don't know what happens now) Academy car kits came with solid rear pipes and that was what you raced with but at least one other series made the use of flexi pipes mandatory so if you changed series an upgrade was required.

I've probably got an original SBFS one somewhere if you are interested? I'd have to work out where I've put it though...

I need a new reluctor ring (the toothed wheel on the RHS drive shaft that the speedo sensor reads from).
Anyone :
1) got one spare
2) got a drive shaft with one on I can have
3) know where I can get one

I am looking for a good condition tunnel top to fit a metric S3 car
-
out of interest, which are the "standard" ones you actually have to race with?
-
loads of us race on standard brakes and fade isn't a problem I've heard complained about much at all. I would definitely look at your pad selection before spending money on a new brake system

AO48 - to me seemed far grippier in the dry (but still progressive), and a real handful in the wet (compared to CR500)

Charles - a couple of us in Grads Sigmas have the W1i so you are welcome to take a look. Great seat...

According to Caterham the high effort pedal was designed for the old chassis but fits with some "fettling" (I got one of the teams to do mine). Why they can't update it to directly fit the chassis they have been selling for years is somewhat beyond me....

and to keep things really interesting - they're changing the compound again for 2014 as well...

Video VBox takes CAN input (straight from the EBDII port, or via passive sensor on the cable) I *think* each CAN config requires a specific setup file from Racelogic. Having said that, Racelogic seem very helpful in getting things working.

For what it's worth - the "legal" minimum in the race series is 120mm under the front chassis bar where the back leg of the front wishbone meets it. And that feels quite low enough...

Genuine BMW 17" alloys and winter tyres (run-flat). Originally from a BMW X1 (http://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/accessories/accessoryDetail.accessoryId=3472.html)
Wheels are 7.5Jx17 and are in near mint condition.
Tyres - Dunlop 225/50R17 SP Winter Sport M3 . They perform great in poor weather and have loads of tread left (~6mm +).
On ebay here but happy to sell outside that.

"How the hell did they miss this" - no idea, but once the de-dion no longer hits the diff I have found it it now has enough space move past it and have the radius arm mount hit the boot floor instead (albeit under heavy load) and apparently that isn't an issue either....
Suspension geometry design doesn't seem to be a strong point.
-
"They weren't done up properly" - from my own experience I disagree. They can be torqued fully and come loose. I never had a problem with road usage and minilites, but the 8 spoke wheels and track use do it quite reliably for myself and others...
-
If I am on track, then I re-torque the wheel nuts after every session - they do seem to come loose (I assume due to the heating/cooling expansion cycle). I started doing this after I finished one track day and found some of them only finger tight having been fully torqued at the start of the day...
