  1. Hi all, A couple of questions concerning tyres: 1. I see that typically, regardless of wear, the general guidance is to change tyres after 5-6 years due to tyre aging. What are your views on this? 2. Do you trust the average tyre replacement centre to correctly jack up your 7 to replace the tyres or do you remove the wheels and bring them to the tyre centre? My 160S has plenty of tread on the tyres, but although the car is 5.5 years old now the DOT code suggests the tyres were manufactured between late 2015 and late 2016 and I'm wondering if I should change them, especially whilst I can probably still get Avon ZT7's. Cheers, Mark
  2. As I said in my previous post - don't swap the micro relays, replace them!
  3. Hi, this does sound similar to a problem I had which I believe was down to a sticking relay. I swapped relays around, it started fine but the indicators didn't work! I've replaced all the relays now with new Bosch ones and it's been fine ever since. Just in case the part numbers for Bosch mini & micro relays I ordered from Arnold Clark parts were as follows: 0332209152 0986AH0304
  4. The Bosch one I listed looks OK to me but I was hoping someone could confirm before I order them. Not sure what brand that other reference is, but it's clearly a different reference to the number I have in mine already.
  5. Hi all, Can't seem to find this info and no answer on my FB post yet... After suffering with what seem like sticking micro relays I want to replace the 6 x micro relays in my Caterham 160. The part I have is just labelled part number 111015. If I search on Caterham parts they just show the only micro relay as RIPCA 2845D (which is out of stock). The Bosch equivalent part SEEMS to be 0986AH0304 but I was wondering if anyone could confirm or maybe advise the equivalent Hella part code? Cheers, Mark
  6. Thanks, it was actually in with the main dealer who told me they'd fixed it, which is why i'd have thought they'd have done all the necessary tests to identify the problem or faulty part. I just took a 190 mile round trip and used up a days holiday to get it sorted which is wasted!
  7. I also have the 160 and my car went in yesterday to sort out a temperamental gauge reading - it was either fine then suddenly went into the red zone or when i put the ignition on instead of 'rest' it would go to 6 bar then as soon as i started the engine it would go into red. They cleaned and checked all connections yesterday but 2/3 of the way home it shot into the red again. They said they would probably look to replace the gauge. My questions are:- Is it likely then to be a faulty gauge? Is this an easy swap to do myself? Would I be better getting someone to fit a new mechanical rather than electric gauge?
  8. Just thought i'd add that the dealership got back to me extremely quickly this morning. They thought it might be an electrical issue based on my description of the problem and that the car would be safe to drive. I had a play around behind the dash this morning as they suggested and thought while doing so I felt the slightest of 'clicks'. I then turned the engine on and... 4bar, so this indeed seems to have solved the problem. Whilst i'm not experienced whatsoever in car maintenance naturally i'm hoping I won't continue to have any issues i'm looking on anything that does happen as an opportunity to learn rather than put me off owning a Caterham. The mechanical nature rather than being a laptop on wheels makes me think i could perhaps do so. Thanks to those who offered advice, it's much appreciated and I look forward to being part of this community!
  9. When i switch the ignition on it goes to 6 bar then when i turn the engine on it goes straight to 8 bar.
  10. Hi all, My first post on here. I bought a 3 year old 160S a few weeks ago. During my last drive the oil pressure gage shot up into the red and stayed there. The car was freshly serviced and MOT'd before I collected it. Any idea what's causing this? Just went out for a short drive to see if it was still doing it and it has. May be my imagination but after such a short drive the engine seemed very hot. I have a 3 month warranty on it, but I don't want to drive it 80 miles to the dealership if it's going to do potential damage. Cheers, Mark
