  1. Same here. Loose radius arms make it sound like the back end is about to fall off.The only thing I've ever found to be loose too. Easy to check if you don't have tilletts seats...🤪

I don't know what is more cool: 1, the fact that we're part of a community full of the sort of people that would know about this. Or 2, the fact that some one would have a gauge/tool to hand AND know how to use it!!! You're all brilliant people 😎 🍻

Just checked with Adrian Flux that the work carried out with Northampton Motor Sport didn't affect my insurance premium. They said it was ok and no increase. What a nice company. 👍

@Beagler what Throttle bodies did NHM fit for you please? I can't tell from the pics up the thread. Thanks in advance

I'm going to ask Santa for one of these. Should I go for a De Walt one which attaches to the battery I already have with my drill (cost c.£130) or a stand alone one e.g. Ring (cost C.£60)?

    Thoughts/experiences appreciated.

I use a Ryobi pump with my drill/impact driver batteries. Works really well so would imagine the DeWalt equivalent would be just as good. I use a separate digital pressure gauge, and just over inflate by a PSI or two and then drop it down to where I want them for the conditions/intentions... Either way I'd go for one with a clamp on fitting not a screw on, easier to get accurate pressures and since our cars are so sensitive to pressures...

I can highly recommend Premier Power’s work… does depend how big your bank is as to whether it gets broken! *scratchchin*

Lowest price(/best value?) option is their ultra-light flywheel - won’t add power but will improve drivability.

    Thereafter, you’ll be a kid in a toy shop… 💷 💷 💷 🤷🏼‍♂️

Worth speaking to Stuart - he won’t give you the hard sell (he doesn’t need to)!

edited to add, I believe Luke at Team Leos might be able to offer a remap of the standard Caterham ECU, so that might be an alternative route.

Seconded. I've been very happy with my conversion. night and day difference over 270/310 stock from CC... Excellent service. No hard sell, superb engineering.

  6. Agree with Tim. Looks more like a load of pick up rather than scrubbing... And normal for a hot one. And if you've been properly set up, which it sounds like you have...

I'm no expert on pressures - There is an Avon guide in the docs section on here. I usually start 18/19 cold (for 13") and adjust as you say. Avon say 22-27 HOT for the ZZS... Have a look HERE

  7. I asked Caterham about Avon availability at the club brooklands event. I missed Bob the CEO sadly...

Their response was more or less as per the press reports in Autocar, motorsport etc. No one from Avon/Goodyear/Cooper has actually said production IS stopping. Just that the UK factory is likely/will close and the staff are all going through HR process.

There is still hope that the existing range will continue to be made elsewhere. Caterham are as keen as the rest of us for an answer and said they're looking and testing alternatives for road and competition use...

I for one would certainly like to continue with my ZZS 13x8 and 13x6 mix...and would like to see the academy tyre and ZZR continue too... I know I'm not alone!

  8. Agree. Though I do balance my 7 with a 1972 B GT which is tax exempt... So feel I have no place to complain... Also... Our family PHEV is £550 and we drive that everywhere in electric only mode... so in that context, £325 for a 'dirty old Seven' is a billy bargain.

  9. Seek out a gent called Jason Derby on the Caterham and Lotus seven Owners group on Facebook. He makes up batches in black billet ali and sells them to members with all bolts a fittings. You just need to sort a mirror on top. They're very good, and Jason is a pleasure to deal with...

Or you can download the files and have them 3D printed yourself. All the details you need for that route are on the Caterham Seven diaries blog post HERE including some producers...

  10. Yes, a great day. Thanks Simon and team. Slick operation, and great instruction for me as a novice. Topped off by a very friendly participants, and respectful safe driving on track. In fact the track day was 100% safer than my drive home. The M4 had a good few centimeters of standing water which even at just 45-50mph felt properly edgy...

  11. Chris Mintoff @ Redline I'd expect! I very happily run Mintex 1144 for Road and occasional track days if that's helpful. Good bite, no squeal.

  12. Mine just disintegrated too. I've just fitted the JAL one. Currently on offer. HERE

Yes it's VERY easy to fit, and as ever there is a step by step how to video...

There is actually two cables on the factory light when you take it apart. Everything you need comes in the kit. Took me about 15mins including tea slurps...

    *clap*

  13. Agree with Toby above. But I'd add

13x6... front and rear (my preferred tyre is the Avon ZZS for road and track) I wouldn't go to wider on the rear until you go north of 175bhp. The car is much more nibble on narrower rears. And doesn't need the extra grip with a stock 310 engine. Especially if you have or fit an LSD

Adjustable suspension collars a must before flat floor as suggested above

Rear anti roll bar is you don't have one

then corner weight/flat floor as Toby suggests

    after that:-

    Tracsport LSD

ultralight flywheel and clutch ( via Premier Power) set that sigma free!

    F160/F175/F190 from premier power... transformational...

  14. I have a Ti-VCT sigma with an ultra light flywheel and clutch from Premier Power. It was fitted as part of their F160 conversion to my 270.

The sigma as standard has a big old heavy flywheel. Which really dulls their response. The PP wheel and clutch takes just under 7kg of rotational mass away. It makes the car feel much much more responsive revs picking up and flaring like a motorbike. It really brings the car alive. There is also lots more engine breaking. It feels like you have a more powerful car. But of course the flywheel doesn't add power! Heel and toe changes and rev matching are now a delight and lightning quick.

The caterham lightweight wheel takes about 3.5kg of mass out. And will give less of an effect, but still will improve response. So it depends what you want and how you use your car.

The PP kit has a heavier clutch action with a much sharper bite, and with the revs flaring quicker initially it was harder to drive at low speeds. But I soon adjusted and I can slouch through villages without noticing.

All in all on a sigma, it's well worth it in my view.

If you're going to drop your engine and swap, I'd highly recommend a PP kit and their services. You won't regret it !
