Mine seems to go onto the sides of the transmission tunnel where it performs a secondary anti-corrosion function.

    Mine to!

  2. Graham, I use Tipton Garage ( Tipton St John) they have done mine the last 3 years. Mine is booked in next Monday. Not sure if they will let you hang around but they let me check the 2 advisories on mine last year up on the ramp when I came to collect it.
they are used to doing Caterhams and kit cars, race cars and classics.

  3. I did my Girling type 14's earlier in the year. Never refurbed a caliper before but it was easier than I thought. The hardest part was getting the pistons out. Technique for this described above. I replaced the pistons as one had a stubborn mark that I could not polish out. I did not separate the two halves of the calipers . It was a bit of a pain getting the dust cover spring clips back on though. I also got a pad fitting kit to complete the job.

  4. Mine is about the same as that. I was concerned about mine after checking it when I replaced the diff oil so asked them to look at it when it was having the cam belt changed, they said it was normal.

  5. Any decent coach trimmer should be able to do something for you.  Must be loads in the NW.

Just a thought, have you tried swapping the drivers seat squab for the passenger one?  It could be that the drivers one has had a lot more use and the foam is tired?  If you find that better see if Qxted would supply you with a new foam, you could get it replaced locally or even do it yourself. I've not done a 7 but have done a few MGB seats.

  6. Just had mine done, 1998 1.6 K Supersport. Had the water pump replaced as well as I think It was probably the original pump and belt. From reading lots about it he consensus seems to be to replace it.

Got all the correct parts from Oilyhands. Very quick delivery!  He also does custom cam shaft oil seals, one of mine was leaking slightly so I had them both replaced.

I thought it better to do all the things that may need doing as didn't want to have to take off the belt again to do the pump or the other oil seal.

  7. I've sourced a complete swirl tower. Should arrive on Tuesday from Redline. CC only had the main tower without the dipstick and cap.
All I think I need now is the longer scavenge hose, already have the catch tank and hoses fitted.
Where does the breather hose connect to? Currently it's connected to the top of the low plate.

  8. Excellent article but I already have a dry sump with bell tank. I was just asking if it's possible to upgrade it by adding the swirl tower which I understand was a later modification of the system I have.

  9. I have a 1998 dry sumped bell tank 1.6 k series which does not have a swirl tower. I understand the swirl tower was introduced due to oil foaming.
My question is do I need one?

When I check the oil after turning off the engine the oil is foamy.
To install the swirl tower is it just a matter of taking off the original top plate, installing the tower and re-routing the oil pipes, or are there other changes needed to the baffles etc?

    Many thanks in advance.
