  1. The Nitron's are one there way so I wanted to get a jump start on the install as this is the first time I have messed with the suspension any tips on how to proceed?

Should I wind the collar all the way down to relieve spring pressure before I try to remove the old ones? (front and rear)

Any tips on what to check and what not to do?

    Thanks

  2. Yep that is what I used, now the stipes don't seem to wanna adhere to the paint.

I think another issue is this is a 20 year old body so the nose cone is not exactly square with the bonnet and with stipes you cant hide it, the stipes ether don't match up nose to bonnet or the nose cone stipes are not centered.

Im going back to studying quantum physics................. it was less frustrating

  3. Having a really hard time trying to line up and center the bonnet stickers around the round 7 hood badge.

Pretty sure the nose cone is toast after laying it down lifting it up, laying it down, sliding it on the soapy water.

Now it will not adhere the the paint.

Me thinks I will just need to order a new set and have the professionals do it

  4. From the pic the headers (primaries in Blighty) look separate?

Dhu!!! Man I looked at these so many times and totally missed they had be cut.

Thanks Mate *thumb_up* saved me from doing sh#t I did not know how to do then kicking myself for not seeing the obvious

  5. Yes Zetec

I do not know how to get the headers off do I have to totally remove the steering column?

I was hoping to release it from the knuckle where it meets the front axle and hopefully I can slide the headers off but I do not know if I have enough wiggle room or do I need to remove the column completely

  6. I am looking to wrap the headers and was hoping removal would not be to involved

Do I need to remove the steering shaft completely to get the headers off or can I just release the shaft at the steering knuckle and rotate the headers in the engine bay and slide them off the end?

  7. I chose Classic Silicone Hoses over the other recommended suppliers because they communicated quickly by email.

Guess they don't like me I sent specs and photos to all three suggested supplier not one responded.

Even called one and they said someone would get back to me ....still waiting.

I ended up ordering a set for a Ford Focus/Mazda from Fleabay (returnable) and as they all seem to be the same configuration (or stock photo) as every one on AliExpress.

I think I can make if work from the 12 pieces in the kit  if the ID is 35mm for the main hoses.

I will return the fleabay set and order from China and save over 100 bucks.

  8. Going for the Chinese option as non of the UK places replied to my email.

Next question is what clamp do you use for silicone?

I like the single ear clamp nice and neat but as I am working with Silicone I don't know if I should be using a constant tension spring clamp or other type?

I have heard as silicon does not adhere to surfaces I obviously do not want this to leak

  9. Looking to overhaul the plumbing on my 2001 2.0 Zetec

I would like to upgrade to pretty silicone and found a set on AliExpress

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000043170548.html?spm=a2g0o.cart.0.0.11993c00Ujrj6x&mp=1

Any ideas if parts of this kit these will fit as it is a Duratec kit.

It is imposable to match the hoses and the configuration by looking at my plumbing and trying to match it up with online photos and I don't want to order, wait, reorder in the hopes hosed will fit.

Is the Caterham Plumbing basically the same as a Ford Focus

    Thanks

  10. With a limited selection in the US and the Toyos being a rather expense (but Good) option what is the smallest width tire I can mount on 13" SLR rims?

I am running 185/60/13s and 205/60/13s now and my only choice at this size is the Toyos

I can get different brands for each size but obviously would prefer to have the same all round

  11. Thanks

The only reason for this question is new rear CF fenders from Wassermann as they offer different widths he wanted to be certain I ordered the correct ones

As coming from Germany I cant exactly return them if they are incorrect

I am sure the ones I have fitted (KCD) are standard but I wanted to make sure.

    Thanks Everyone

  12. Yep I am sure I am incorrect

I used this Technique and come up with the >35mm

The Hoosiers are outside the rim so yes that would most likely be causing an issue as well

Were these rims supplied by Caterham back in the day? If so I will reach out to them.

  13. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I keep coming up with different numbers here are my superlite rims anyone know the offset?

I came up with negative 35mm but me thinks I am wrong

    I got

    250mm from the ground to the flange / 2 = 125mm

160mm from the hub face to the flange

    125 - 160 = >35mm

  14. I went with this after the 90 degree drive went out for the second time

    https://www.speedhut.com/gauge/GR338-GPS-03/1/GPS-Speedometer-160mph

It works...... maybe not as fast a response as the mechanical one but tested it on the street (with help from the wife) and after the 1/3 second delay (catch up) it read correctly.

Have not had an issue of line of sight on the track or the road (that included heavy cloud cover)

The also placed Caterham wording on the face so it looks kinda stock.

Very easy to setup and offers lap times, timers, clock etc.

  15. After almost 4 weeks in the shop the car is almost ready

Rebuild the 2.0 Zetec including replacing the crank, rods pistons and with a small over bore, cleaned up the head new megasquirt ignition system replaced a bearing in the TWM throttle bodies here is the result on 92 octane pump gas (they are going to drain the tank and use 100 octane later today but I do not expect much of a difference in the output).

Unfortunately I do not know if these figures justify the enormous expense I have had to hide from the wife.

I am unsure of the standard output from a Zetec any thoughts someone tell me it was worth the $$?

  16. Here's the update on the engine

I was informed that is should be installed car in the car today

A few pics not very interesting but this is all they sent me

    BottomEnd.thumb.jpg.6f3a6255b52747832376acbd02eb5067.jpg

New (remanufactured Crank and bearings (hope these last a bit longer)

    TopEnd.thumb.jpg.7623da424ab55f3cf0dc5e30c7f30dd0.jpg

    JE Pistons (.20 over.)

The picture of the box (in the previous post did not contain JE pistons as I had assumed but were the original (unused) Zetec pistons........now for sale.

    Replacement

    WindageTray.thumb.jpg.ce5ddda52473f1aa46971208865cd8c0.jpg

Windage tray where the connecting rods were apparently contacting (that must have cost me 15hp)

And finally nearly finished Degreeing the Kent Cams

    CamTiming.thumb.jpg.12fd1c21a1cce9b92aed1e612e63dd82.jpg

Once installed they will dyno test it and then she is back home

I was told no track days for at least 500 miles of easy driving

    Cost so far

    Parts $4,465.47

That included a used block as they could not source a Zetec Cranck (no longer available) and they thought the block was too badly damaged and could not be bored out. That was not the case hence the .20 over pistons and rings

     Labor $3,335.00

I was messaging KitKat back and forth (as he also had a Zetec rebuild) and I told him for the $$ I have spent on this car purchase price and work  I really could of imported a 620.

It makes me annoyed looking back at the costly mistakes that I have made:

Crap paint job had to be redone by another shop

Engine work that did not identify the main bearing issue.

And a plethora of stuff in between that was farmed out to people/shops that I assumed knew WTF they were doing but turned out were clueless.

The cost of this rebuild would of been acceptable is it was not for all the other work. I should prepare a spreadsheet as to how much I have spent but I do not want to depress myself.

And if the wife finds out.......OMG.

I love my Caterham but for all the $$ I could of hired Julia Roberts for a week stayed at the Beverly Hills and would still be smiling
