  1. It snapped at the speedo end. I don't think it was screwed in properly as the collet was loose. Anyway - the gearbox end looks impossible to get at! Do I have to remove panelling? Don't really want to do that... Any tips/gotchas? Is it doable by myself? Any special tools needed?
  2. I wanted to adjust my X-Flow's tappets, so off came the rocker cover, out came the 7/16" ring spanner and feeler gauges. However I cannot budge the tappet screws with the spanner. They are stuck fast. I even tried tapping the spanner with a hammer (lightly) - but nothing. Should I be using a longer spanner for more torque (mines only 6" or so), or is there something I'm missing? Thanks in advance.
  3. You were telling me how reliable it was ;)

    Aldon Amethyst

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll save my £200 for now. Maybe I'll put it towards a megajolt down the line somewhen.

    Aldon Amethyst

Thanks Jonathan, that was of some help. I may ring Aldon during the week to discuss things further with them. If they have a proven map for a 1700 X-flow then so much the better - no point reinventing the wheel by getting it set up on a rolling road.

    Aldon Amethyst

I've been pondering getting an Aldon Amethyst for my 1700 Xflow engine. It already has the Aldon ignitor replacing the points, and I've heard that both performance and fuel consumption can be improved further using the mappable Amethyst unit. Does anyone else run one? What has been your experience with installing/using it?
  7. I'm a new user to this forum, but am a member of many other forums. I've never had so much trouble uploading an avatar photo as on this forum. I had to use a photo resizer about 4 times because your forum 1) doesn't warn before hand what size the file needs to be, and 2) wrongly calculates the size of the file after you upload it. I used a photo resizer to size the file to 799KB, but your forum refused it saying it was something like 820KB. Ok, I'll try, 580KB, but your forum refused it again saying that it was 813KB, only 7KB difference from the last one! I got around this in the end by making it 200KB. But calculating file size correctly needs to be looked at to avoid frustration for newbies using photo resizers. Cheers, Colin
