  1. “My” 70th started from France on Tuesday. A story from the 70th by Nicolas Callawaert. Thanks Nicolas. The day before the event my S2 was booked to make tonneau cover: The final touch of my 3 years rebuild ! When Ben is not working on upholstery at Vamped trimmings he plays music in a group. I was lucky enough to start my 70th with live music during his test session on Tuesday night ! Friday was a mix of tonneau cover tailoring lesson and quick look at Crawley showroom where I spotted the master of a toy most of us have at home and also M.Wary seat (French equivalent of Mister Men's Mr Prudent) ! On Saturday exceptional sunshine magnified 70th with a good mix of factory visit (widely opened), cars display and Classic Team Lotus F1 evolution on track. My favorite was the type43 F1 with its BRM H16 engine: Amazing sound ! James Whiting Serie2 was the perfect 70th car with its Lotus livery and 70 race number: Well done ! On the down side parking could have been made by decade to avoid having the early cars lost in an Elise field…as exit streamer said “See you next year”. I’m sure this will be improved in future. Parade laps were the climax of this fantastic day with 700 Lotus on the track at the same time. A perfect way to show our passion for the 7 exciting decades of this iconoclast sportscars manufacturer. Fingers crossed new Chinese ownership will offer us exciting news soon and for a long time !
  2. Thanks to a bright sunny day and a great venue, around 20 Lotus Sevens met for the inaugural meeting of the Heritage owners at the Phoenix. Dave brought the ESV, and Andy Webber brought a team of ReHabbers to help set up. Many thanks to all. There was a good selection of all types of Lotus from 1957 to 1973, club members and guests, plus about another 20 Caterhams of members who came to have a look and have a blat. The editor of that esteemed publication, Low Flying, came along so hopefully Michael got some good pics for the next edition. Its been said that there are about 30+ Lotus owned by club members but I’m thinking there must be more than that. My mailing list now stands at about 27 and I’m sure there are a lot more members out there. If you know of Lotus Sevens please ask their owners to get in touch if they haven’t already, at heritage@lotus7.club. I’m sure there will be another meeting next year, venue to be decided, and hopefully with greater numbers. Thanks again to all. [Clap]
  3. Ladies and Gentlemen. We are now two weeks from the inaugural meeting of the Heritage Section of the Lotus Seven Club, the Lotus Sevens Day Out to celebrate our cars 1957 to 1973, at the Phoenix Inn, Hartley Wintney. It’s all happening on 15th September 2018 from 11ish to when everybody has gone home. The pub management, well used to car clubs, is reserving all the parking area in front for our Lotus Sevens, and the club Event Support Vehicle (ESV) will be parked nearby. The first reference to Lotus Sevens at the Phoenix that I can find is a meeting on 5th June 1970 which would of course have been 100% Lotus Sevens. I’m glad to say we’re getting good support from current owners; perhaps some of you were there in 1970? Provided I get enough willing marshals, we’ll also be reserving space for all the other Sevens in a line in the rear parking area. Please tell me if you intend to come and eat, the centre section in the restaurant is being saved for us. They will also be serving coffees and teas and sandwiches. NEW! A late addition – With the help of Dave and the ESV, we’re making space for a small autojumble purely for Lotus Seven parts that you can bring in your Seven. (The Club does not guarantee genuine provenance!) It is not intended to be a general market, and you have to take away anything that does not sell! A donation or the proceeds would be expected for the Club charity, Sir Jackie Stewart’s Race against Dementia. You can contact Rod Thonger on heritage@lotus7.club with any questions. I hope we’ll see you there. www.phoenixinn.co.uk Tel: 01252 842484. London Road, Phoenix Green Hartley Wintney RG27 8RT
  4. Hi there. when you have a moment, can we have an update to remove NtL and put in Race against Dementia. Thanks/Rod
  5. Good to meet many of you for the first time at Donington and discuss what we can do in the future. For club members, I’m arranging to set up a mailing list for Heritage Sevens in the same way that we send out messages to the Areas. I hope that those of you on the list but not in the club will actually join. I can send out messages of interest to non members because it’s a good place for all owners to be, but it may not be so reliable as being in the club. At our meeting on the Saturday, I talked about the website, a Low Flying page, emails to all on the Lotus Seven list and getting together from time to time. I’m hoping that the usual club method for ARs will be available to me to talk to Lotus owners. It means that you may be on two mailout lists but you can always resign from the list if you feel its all too much! If you want to contribute to Lotus matters, you can log in and write here – https://www.lotus7.club/users/heritage-group or you can go to Area Meets and look for Heritage And I was telling you about the LF archive – you can find it here http://lowflying.lotus7.club/lowflying/search.jsp Lots of Lotus articles there. Late news for Club members - Silverstone Classic tickets available to purchase in aid of Race Against Dementia We have received a small number of complementary tickets for the Silverstone Classic from the organisers. These are available to members to purchase and all proceeds will go the the new club charity - Race Against Dementia. Friday tickets are £25, Saturday and Sunday tickets £30. Unfortunately there are no spare car passes for the club stand. If you would like tickets please email northantsbedsbucks@lotus7.club stating how many and which day(s). Graham Hope to see you at Silverstone where I’ll be on the HLR stand (next to the L7 Club) on Saturday. Look for our flag! Cheers/Rod
  6. Hi to all of you that came to Donington for the weekend, and to those that didn't make it. I reckoned there were about 40 Lotus there, most of them s2, but a lot of them s4 too. The weekend started with the display outside the F1 museum. I had this bright idea that one of ach model would show the development in the most obvious way, but especially when Rainer's s3 couldn't make it, our show was looking a bit bare. There aren't many of us anyway so I was glad when a few others came in to join. In future I think we'll just get all to join in if we do something similar. Many thanks to John Watson, club historian, who pulled out some new photos and quips since his last History of the Seven at the 50th anniversary.. Judging by the number of people sitting in, there is still a lot of interest. We might even need some more cars soon! Oops, no doubt those who know will say that there are quite enough dodgy ones out there already .... Before John's talk we had a 1st session talking about the new Heritage section, and I'll write up something on that shortly. The line up of Lotus at the venue, was a great success, in fact we had 3 line ups, I think! We've got our own flag now so it will look mighty impressive if we can end up in the same place. The next place we're going to try and get us together is the Silverstone Classic. I see that us, HLR and Club Lotus are in the same club parking area so maybe we can get them together. And of course we have the lap of the circuit, which I think is at lunchtime. https://www.silverstoneclassic.com/news/diamond-days-for-the-lotus-seven I hope we'll keep in touch. cheers/Rod
  7. Hi there. Better late than never. Bright orange s4 in good condition, no roll bar. ETF695J. Mine was parked at the visitor centre on the other side, sorry no time to chat, had to leave for Portmeirion and Pothmadoc. Are you coming to the 60th? cheers/Rod
