  1. Thanks all for the feedback. I've decided not to replace the clutch having just had an updated estimate come through for the work carried out so far. Ideally I'd like to have done so, just for peace of mind but finances are going to have to dictate otherwise. Thanks Tim
  2. Is it possible to delete duplicate posts? Thanks

    Clutch Life

Hi How many miles would you expect a clutch to last in a Caterham thats been driven mostly on the road with the occasional track day? The reason I ask is that the engine in my car (R400D / 2007 / 35k miles) is currently out having some work done. Clutch is fine according to the specialist but is it worth changing the clutch anyway? Thanks Tim
  4. Thanks, will look at the paint option.
  5. Hi The vertical links on my 2007 car lost their factory fresh silver look a long time ago. Is it possible to get them to look as new again? Thanks Tim
  6. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and for the link Geoff. Will have to investigate further. By the way, I didn't receive your PM Jonathan just in case you're wondering why I haven't replied.
  7. I noticed recently that the ignition light has been glimmering intermittently whilst driving and on Sunday, during a trip out where I got stuck in traffic for a long period with the radiator fan on, the engine died. The AA came out, said I had an alternator issue, gave the battery a quick boost and I was able to get home. I've now checked the battery voltages. Whilst idling, the voltage at the battery is only around 13v suggesting the alternator isn't working. However, if a rev over 1500rpm, the voltage reads 14.2v which I believe is about right. Does this mean the alternator is fine and I just need the alternator to run quicker when the engines idling? I can't see what type of alternator I have but it's on a 2007 Duratec 2.0. It's a 3 month old Banner battery. Thanks in advance. Tim
  8. Just wanted to say that thanks to the wealth of info on Blatchat, I managed to sort today a rough running issue I've been having with my 2007 R400 Duratec recently. For the last 4 weeks, once the car warmed up, it would start sounding rough and hesitant up to around 4k rpm and this has been getting progressively worse. I found a few past threads on Blatchat where people had described similar issues. Following the advice given by cleaning the crankshaft sensor in situ and then removing and cleaning the camshaft sensor, the issue appears to be sorted so that's a huge relief..... I had visions of an expensive trip to a specialist.
  9. There's a nice route from South Harting which 4miles outside Petersfield, through to Compton then Chichester and Petworth (A285) and back home via A272.
  10. Hi i might have to try this as having given the Halfords sticky pad another go recently, I found the mirror in the foot well yesterday morning yet again. Tim
  11. Thanks for the feedback. I've ordered a new plastic saddle bush. Will be interesting to see if it makes a difference.
  12. Hi The gearstick on my 6-speed gearbox has a little play in it and I rarely have any issues with gear changes (except going into third very ocassionally at speed when the cars warm) Whilst I have the tunnel cover removed, is it worth changing the saddle bush (assuming that would make the play better?) and if so, is it reasonably straightforward to do? Gearbox has done approx 28k miles. Thanks Tim
  13. Thanks all. Followed Chris's advice and alls good. Tunnel top removed.
  14. Hi Chris, I hadn't tried unlocking the locknut with the handbrake on... i'll give that a go. Thanks
  15. Hi I'm trying to remove the leather tunnel top and to do so, I need to slacken the handbrake handle so that its vertical. I've found the handbrake cable adjuster (just above the diff) but I cant adjust it at all. Is there a technique to this? Which way should the plastic nut be turned in order to loosen the handbrake... I'm assuming anticlockwise? Thanks Tim
  16. Thanks all for the comments. I'm going to give the silicon spray a go. Fortunately, whoever had the car before me had the foresight to install captive nuts on the runners so removing the seats if I need to try another type of lubrication, is straightforward. My car had spacers between floor and runner which I hadn't realised were there. There were the same height on all four corners so while the seats are out, I've ordered some more to place at the front so that I can get the seat to angle back a little further.
  17. Hi I've just removed my Tillet seats to give the runners a clean as they were seized solid. Just wondered what people are using to lubricate the runners? Wasn't sure I wanted to use grease as this might attract all the grit that inevitably ends up under the seat and I'll be back to square one again. Would be grateful for any advice. Thanks Tim
  18. Hi Just resurrecting this thread as I'm considering the same source of action to reduce the diff noise on my 2007 R400 Duratec. The car has been serviced over the years by a number of Caterham specialists and when I've commented on the diff noise, they have all said there's nothing wrong. I can tolerate the noise when going aero as I use ear plugs but when the full screen is on, it's very intrusive and makes conversation difficult, and it gets worse when the car is warmed up. Diff oil was changed by Caterham in Jan when it was serviced. So I'm looking at the insulation route.... Just wondered if anyone has tried adding noise insulation on the bulkhead and boot floor and did it help? Thanks Tim
  19. Thanks all for the feedback. Think I'll try the Halfords pads one more time but with the G-Clamp trick. Fingers crossed.
  20. Hi What do people use to stick the rearview mirror to the windscreen? I've given up on the Halfords sticky pads. They only last a month or two before the mirror falls off again. Thanks Tim
  21. Thanks all for the advice.... will try a few of the suggestions
  22. Thanks, I'll give that a bash and see how it goes.
  23. Hi I'm looking to freshen up the interior and exterior of my car and one thing I want to do is touchup the black rivets. Does anyone have any suggestions on a durable paint? Thanks Tim
  24. Hi Geoff I considered the option to convert my existing exhaust into a repackable version but it seems quite involved and beyond my capabilities. Tim
