  1. black seven towards dartford near M23 junction on M25 at 08.45 today Sunday. Just a glimpse over the central reservation as we were going the other way.

  2. Is it viable to actually charge rather than condition battery via 12 V socket. Mine was fitted by Caterham but the cables look a bit flimsy compared to those on the charger. Are they good enough to charge through? Keeping the battery indoors at the moment but would like to not have the hassle of bolting it back in before using the car every time.

Still thinking about this and cannot decide if it gives any real advantage apart from making the Seven available reliably at short notice, ie if the roads are dry and the sun shines during the winter months. A square metre of electric underfloor heating mat is about seventy quid complete with thermostat / timer and is cheap to run. I could cut it to fifty cms by two metres length to fit very nicely under the car, and just have it running for a few hours every morning on the timer "just in case".

  4. The thought was just to keep the temprature well above freezing for the car and the boats, although the boats have already been there for a number of years without problems. The car is under a cover already and there is good air circulation. The idea of a tube heater under the car is good though as I understand that they only use around 120 watts, and should then heat the air locally under the sump and battery safely. Will try this later in the week. I recall that we used to keep a water tank from freezing in the old workshop with just a sixty watt bulb under it during the winter.

  5. Not without a lot of heat loss - garage is sixteen metres from the house. However, I may look into an underfloor heating system just under the car. We have UFH in the house and it works really well, so just a small section might be good to keep the car nice and cosy, the oil thin and the battery warm. 

  6. we have a couple of  oil filled radiators which we rarely use. I am wondering if it is worth using them in the garage, a double, on a timer just to keep the temperature as constant as possible. Any thoughts ?

  7. Just a thought here, is there any possibility of having a backup battery permanently in linked in for the winter months to give more capacity? I have been keeping mine indoors after it dying in the garaged car, but it is a bit of a pain if the weather looks good.

     

  8. I have ZZRs all round and after 3000 miles they still look pretty much only very lightly worn. They certainly grip well in both dry and wet, but must say I have not driven any other type so cannot compare.

  9. OK to just hose down underneath? Iclean the car before putting it away after every drive, but wonder at best way to get all of the muck off that is below eye level.

  10. Decided on winter use as much as possible but only when enjoyable. For me this means dry roads and clear days, out after the sun is up and back home well before it goes down again. Trying to travel north westish in the morning so that I come back with the lowered sun behind me in the afternoon and go out with it behind me in the morning. Have got a little fed up with being blinded with oncoming halogens at eye level, and nutters in hatchbacks driving right up my bum at night on the local lanes. But summer is on its way!

  11. Been thinking about this today and I think it will be easy to reproduce this idea using black plastic tube and a commercialy available LED brake light unit. It  should be straightforward to  make a unit which looks better than having gaffer taped cables etc and which also looks made for the job.

  12. Saw a pic of a Japanese 160 which is fitted with the best looking third brake light I have yet seen. It looks specially made to fit between the sloping uprights of the roll bar and is full width with the ends nicely faired in around the uprights.  Are these available here in the UK?
