  1. Hi All, I am hoping to enter some rounds of the Speed Championship this year. As I am a complete novice I would ideally wait for the 'Introduction to Sprinting' event but as this is September it would mean missing most of this years events and I am too impatient to wait! I therefore have loads of newbie questions. I have obviously read the the online guide which has lots of info and so understand what I need to obtain in terms of licence, racewear etc. It was more about getting my car prep'd and ready to pass scrutineeriing. I should point out that my ambition is to turn up and have some fun and I am not hoping or expecting to challenge the leaders, just enjoy some motorsport. I have a 1997 1.6 k series with a 6 speed box so it appears I will be in class 2. I already have a FIA roll bar fitted I would really appreciate any advice members could give me as a first timer and in particular on the following topics; - fitting a petty strut., how easy is it? Keeping windscreen on or do I need aero screen?/Tyre choice and how many needed? Recommended spares to carry? Any mods that are recommended? Thanks in advance for any help or input, Alex
  2. Hi Jonathan Kay - no you are not alone! I have decided that this winter I am going to change the cambelt on my k series. (I can hold a spanner but don't know then what to do with it). Your idea of a GTKY7 session would be ideal and just what is needed. I am slightly surprised that there isn't a definitive guide on this site somewhere. You get the odd link to a video of a guy doing it on a bench with the engine out and some tips in various threads referring to big screwdrivers. I need the Delia Smith recipe with photos and step by step instructions with no assumptions that I have a clue as to what I am actually doing. (Thinking about it, if it is a guide with photos I would prefer a Nigella Lawson version). Wow, I might have stumbled onto something here... Considering this is a vital and not inexpensive task we must all face it would be great if someone in the club could write up a full guide on this with some photos. Perhaps I should attempt this, hopefully it won't be entitled ' How I wrecked my engine - what not to do on cambelt change'. In the meantime it looks like cake could be the answer to achieving this task. I can get loads of cake! Alex

  4. Thanks for the responses guys. SM25T - Sevens & Classics were really helpful but only had wide track on the shelf. Mark will pm you - thanks!
  5. Hi - 4 weeks into Caterham ownership and I did my first Auto Solo in it at the weekend. Massive fun! However, while sliding about a loud knocking sound developed in the steering rack. There is no play, just a clunking sound as you turn the steering wheel - suggests something wrong in the rack. Having rung every parts supplier in Low Flying nobody has a Standard Track rack on the shelf and Caterham have got none in stock....Anyone got a spare out there? p.s. very annoyed it has taken me this long to discover Caterhams. There is nothing else on 4 wheels which is so much fun. But I guess everyone on this forum know that!
