1600 Crossflow knocking noise from engine/clutch ?

My Crossflow has a loud knocking noise from the Engine/ clutch , the noise stops when the clutch pedal is depressed, the engine has done 20,000 mls & i have just replaced the clutch, any ideas ? Adrian Holmes
