Talk to James Whiting based in Middlesex (Google James Whiting Sevens). Mine was cursed with a missfire that evaded all diagnosis, James sorted it in one session. He's a smashing bloke, he'll sort you out

Mine is a 90 Xflow SS 1700 - I would definitely go for the Aldon & Ignitor JJ, saves messing about with points

I had issues with my 1700SS for a long time (misfire ) and eventually it was traced to carbs needing a rebuild plus a dodgy ignitor in the Aldon Dizzie

(Sorry just re-read an saw that you have have the carbs done).

It's a Saab 9-3 - too  much crap in the car to put the roof down. Cracking car - the family workhorse and puts to shame the Range Rover Vogue unreliable sh*tbox that preceeded it !

Nice car - followed you for a bit (black Saab soft top) before I turned off !

You have my deepest sympathy - it damned near drove me around the bend ! To answer your question YES the car is definitely now sorted and the fact that it is is down to James Whiting ( but Paul Deslandes was also very helpful getting the car going initially).

Probably several smaller issues (old carbs / cold start elimination 'choke', failing coil) masked the main problem of a failing ignitor in the Aldon  dizzie.

Also I changed plugs. Like many I ran B8ECS which sooted up frequently. James said that they were really recommended for track use = 7,000 / 8,000 rpm at full throttle continuously, no idling or cruising  and so with road use they never got hot enough except on very long runs.

On James' advice I fitted NGK BPR6EIX plugs - not cheap but I have NO fouling issues and car has been A1 (that's jinxed it!!)

Given the issues with such a new car aren't you tempted just to offload it and get into something (another Cat) that you can just jump in and drive ?

(Edited to say : Not trying to be facetious with this post - just seems a shame that you've had a pretty rotten time with the car !)

WP - yes and they were fine. Think it might be a duff socket so testing a spare on the morning.

Wired in a 12v socket a couple of years ago( to charge phone) and works fine but have recently rigged up two 12v fans in car and they plug straight into one of these ( see pic) which then goes into the 12v. The in-line fuse for the 12v socket is 25amp but blows almost immediately.

Know next to nothing about electrics but what would be the correct fuse to fit (and the max that would be prudent to fit) ?

Any advice appreciated ! Thanks

Interesting debate on this.

I think the solution probably is some sort of venting to get the heat out. I have a couple of 12v fans (360 degree rotational that we placed in the passenger footwell and the passenger reckoned it did help push the air around. Impractical for the drivers side for obvious reasons but I'm experimenting with attaching them to the bulkhead under the dash with the units angled toward the footwell.....suspect it will only make a small improvement but if it's anything worthwhile I'll post a pic
