  1. To state the obvious only lightly smear around the outside of the primaries and not inside the collector tubes. That way you can remove any excess sealant and not have it pushed into the CAT. They are a relatively tight fit. I did mine last weekend to cure a slight gas leak. Lee
  2. Spot on, that's what I was after. Much appreciated. Lee
  3. Evening all, I have spent a few evenings reading old posts/threads about the setup of the RBTB on the k R300. Many of these posts refer to a page on the minister power website and also one or two reference a Caterham manual. The issue is many of these posts were back from 2012 to as early as 2004 when the cars were pretty new with many of the links now expired with the minister power website no longer available from what I can see. Can any members offer a setup advice (the TPS + voltage, idle etc) or link to either of these references? Thanks Lee.
  4. That sounds like a good response! I have recently contacted Ben via PM and he has been really helpful. I will replace the lambda as a start and then look into a suitable map to suit the engine. Caterham parts only list for a EU3/4 lambda and a search doesn't really help with this one, I will give them a call next week. Thanks
  5. Thanks, just replied! I have since found out that Ben Ferrey, a previous owner to the chap I bought it off, had a cat welded into the custom silencer, but it sounds like this has made little difference. I have 10 days to replace the upper ball joint boots then apparently they will issue the certificate. I have spent hours reading through old threads about these engines/mapping so it's been a steep learning curve tonight! Just wondered if replacing the lambda will help? Looking like a possible mapping session this summer. Lee
  6. Evening all, after trawling through the search results I took the advice and sent the car for a two week early MOT test. Overall it went very well with only two split upper ball joint boots but then the emissions had the lads laughing. I knew it running rich as it particularly likes a drink over what I would consider acceptable for an EU2 R300 on TBs (and in the words of my wife "it stinks a bit"). I don't have the values to hand but I'm sure he mentioned a value of 9 for the Co2 with very high HC values? Now for starters it has a single re-packable silencer with no CAT so I was expecting it to be higher than normal. Can any experienced owners confirm a potential faulty single manifold mounted lamda sensor as the first part to replace? The throttle bodies were setup only 800 miles ago by Nick Potter. many thanks, Lee
  7. I was told it's the black button on the dash to re-program them? Have not had the car long enough to know otherwise Lee
  8. Ian, it's taken me back a few years when I used to clean the contacts up on the dizzy cap, rotor arm on my old VWs (admittedly I was a skint student at the time) with a bit of wet and dry paper. On inspection when I bought the car the contacts had seen better days in the cap. I thought It won't harm changing them along with the the leads after 13 years/27k miles and will hopefully improve cold starting too. Good excuse for a bit of garage time and a brew over the weekend anyway. Lee
  9. Right after a bit of back and forth I've ordered a set of Formula Power bespoke high performance leads. I've given measurements for the 4 leads plus coil so hopefully they will be a perfect fit. The 10mm diameter should fit quite snug under the central plug lead cover. £49.99 plus a fiver p&p which I didn't think was too bad. I've mentioned you may be interested Phil, so it should be a more simple purchase if you intend to buy. Helpful chap too. Lee
  10. I've ordered the dizzy cap and rotor arm from from Redline. Waiting for Formula Power to get back to me with a price re leads. Lee
  11. Thanks, will take a look at the TPS Phil. Rimmer bros seem good value for the replacement part and were helpful today. "genuine rover" just seem silly, £25 for a dizzy cap?? I'm sure Lucas or Intermoto will be fine. It's a Lucas part that's on it now. HT leads I'm thinking of having a set made from Formula Power after a quick search on the forum. Lee
  12. Good evening, as part of the next service on the car I'm looking at replacing the dizzy cap, rotor arm and ignition leads as there is nothing in the history which indicates they have been changed and I'm hoping that it may help the car start a little easier when cold. Are there any recommendations from where to purchase? Caterham online parts seem pretty steep for such simple items. The car is a 2003 R300 non VVC. Thanks, Lee
