You're right. The Register photo above, and the video from underneath both look like it's swung over a little. I guess there can't be too many ways to get the engine mounts to fit the chassis. As long as the carb is clear of the engine cover, then I guess all should be well!

Wow, has the drive train really got that much of a kink in it?
Here's the pic from the Register write-up
http://regmedia.co.uk/2014/10/24/caterham_160_engine_bay.jpg
And another off Google Images
http://cdn.gmotors.co.uk/news/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Caterham-Seven-165.jpgand one I took of the cutaway 160 at Caterham Cars South
I realise none of these pics is absolutely dead straight on, like yours is, for a good comparison.
Weird, eh?

I think there are a ton of posts about this in blatchat - if you can find them... Also there's a link here about how to do this.
I'm going to get a 12v cig lighter to place in the dash (to charge the battery, via an always-on space on the fuse box the other side of the scuttle), and then a weatherproof (capped) 12v-sized USB charger to fit between the seats on the bulkhead (for phones, cameras etc) with a fused wire going along the inside of the tunnel up into the boot.
You can get them from Maplin or a marine chandlers for less than £10. Or on Amazon for less than a fiver.

Thanks for the tip, Peter. I rang round a few insurers, both for build-up and normal car insurance. Quotes varied wildly (Adrian Flux were over £500!). I shall try Lloyd and White before D-Day!
With both of you progressing ahead of me, I feel a warm glow of confidence that you'll troubleshoot it all nicely ;-)

Did you think about heat/sound insulation? I'm not sure whether our little engine is going to create a lot of heat, but I know others have put heat protection in the tunnel, and around the footwells. Did the chassis come with anything already in place?
Cheers

Great progress, and brilliant pics. Keep it up!

Welcome to the club, Juls. There's a handful of us here with 160s on order. Mine arrives in March...
-
I think you use silicone sealant to get the IVA trim to stick. Worth checking in TechTalk.

Keep up the good work, mate! I was at Caterham Cars today with my kids, to look at the cars and get them excited.
The Top Gear magazine-built 160 is for sale there. 5000 miles, and £19,995!

Congratulations! That is one clean garage floor.
Keep that camera busy... we're relying on you

Looking forward to hearing more from both of you! There aren't many of us around here. Mine's scheduled for March, so you guys will have finished by then!

Good news! Hope you've got your camera set up... Looking forward to following your progress. Mine's due in March

Ah, I hadn't spotted the update to the manuals online. It looks largely the same, though some of the photos are a bit clearer (albeit with some of the labels now dropped off the photos).
-
Great! Now there are three people I can email when I am fretting and swearing over mine. I'm not massively impressed by the manual. Nowhere near as clear as the Westfield equivalent (though that's a much more complex build, admittedly).

Hi
I'm sure your blog will be very useful to me. My 160 kit arrives in March. I think there are 3 of us on here awaiting a 160: you, me and Michael Stallard (also has a blog).
At the moment I'm reading the manual carefully. Also reading the Westfield manual, which is much clearer in lots of ways - better diagrams, better photos, lots of general workshop hints.
I look forward to following your progress!

Have a look at this, too. Some good close up footage of a (presumably factory built) 160. Nice shot around 1'40"
