Paul
Just blew up my supersprnt (see related topic). Don't know much about the 1700 X-flow. Bought my Seven second hand. Having stripped the block, I find no. 4 cylinder liner has nipped and been pulled down. Not too much damage to the head or the crank shaft. Obviously no. 4 piston is knackered. What seems strange to me is that the liner has slipped to reveal a big hole in the block. It doesn't look like the hole is a result of the liner failure. I suppose my questions are: 1. Are 1700s cylinders all bored out and then lined? 2. Is it standard for 1700s to be bored out right into the block water channels, with a liner then fitted? 3. Is it possible to bodge up a previous engine block failure with a new liner? Cheers, Paul.
Dave H
Paul, My elderly 1700 x-flow certainly doesn't have liners, and the literature I've seen makes little mention of them, so I think the answer to your questions are No, No, and Probably, as in your case it looks like someone tried. Give one of the experts a ring -James Whiting or Roger King have forgotten more about these things than most of us will ever know...and are happy to talk about them
