Chris Faulbaum
What does Caterham use, if anything, to seal the scuttle where it meets the shelf in the engine compartment.(where the battery sits.)
Keith_Morris
They use clear silicon
R2D2
My 1989 car has had the scuttle sealed with RTV which is clear. During a re-build it was immpossible to remove the scuttle and gain access to the back of the instruments and loom which was a real pain. I don't think the lotus built cars were sealed and if I had the choice I would leave this area un-sealed.
CHRIS CLARK
The area concerned is sealed with silicone as already stated, and is there for a good reason. It stops the inevitable shake that can set in with vibration and if you clean the engine area with the bonnet off it saves the carpets getting wet!!!!!!!!!!! Steve Winterberg
Carpets, carpets!! Ye gods man it's a wee road racer he's talking about not his bleeding front room! You'll be wanting to know the right temperature to wash yer head rest covers next! (30 degrees, cool wash, non-iron. A nice flowery smelling fabric conditioner is lovely too.)
