JOHN L
I picked up my newly acquired r500 after some attention from Minister today. Hit a catseye on the way to the Midlands. It is bleeding over the drive- a drip every second or two. Would driving it to a garage be stupid if more mobil 1 were to be put in. I already have the car booked in at the 7 workshop on Monday for other work. Or should I get it picked up by the nearest Caterham outfit -Midland Caterham I think. Â I am mechanically ignorant so any advice would be appreciated
Paul McKenzie
John, Firstly don't panic and take your finger off the key  Secondly get under it and have alook..is it cracked, or have you just belted it and disturbed the gaskets? If it's not a big leak take it to 7 workshop and they'll do the necessary. If it is abig leak then remove the sump and get it alloy welded locally. Nobody's gonna help you 'til Monday , so sit back have a glass of wine and relax 😬 Paul
Mole
"Hit a catseye" - what's your ground clearance? Or was it attached to a cat at the time 😬 SV 52 CAT - moles fly -
A10ROX
Several of the Pennine Club cracked their sumps last year Replacement sump required Trailer is best option, however with the dry sump system we concluded that the oil is circulated and therefore there is not enough oil in the sump to leak. It only leaks when you stop so don't stop 😬 R400 and a bit ... with a great big hopefully quiet exhaust!
JOHN L
It looks like less than 2 inches under the sump. A bit on the low side I think. The car had been set up for the track
Brookie
Magnesium can be welded, very specialised though.
JOHN L
Thanks for all the advice above- it looks as if the crack is about 1 1/2 inches on the front there is a gap a bit further back but it may be designed like that. Still in two minds as to whether I should drive to seven workshop tomorrow. Do alloy cracks tend to be stable. Dont mind a bit of oily muck on the undersidebut I would rather avoid suddenly having no oil.  If as Brookie suggested magnesium can be welded does anyone know of specialists that I could try.
