Superseven Twincam
Does anyone know where I can find the engine-number of my Lotus Twincam? If correct, engine specifications can be found through this enginecode? Thanks, Jilles.

Noel Mclaughlin
Jilles the Miles Wilkins book is the bible to ID these motors. The key lies in the cam cover colour, the choke sizes in the carbs, the number of rings ground onto the camshaft at the drive end. This will give you the spec IE sprint cam etc, and valve sizes the rest. The key is the cam cover colour!
deanteam
The engine number should be stamped into the top of the engine mount below the carbs. I doubt if this will give you the spec but should give you for which vehicle it was built.
Superseven Twincam
Thanks guys, that oughtta help. I've got the Wilkins TwinCam book, as of last weekend. Wilkins states on engine ID that prefix letter or letters are to "denote its specification and the application for which it had been built". My camcover is red and has got "LOTUS" in raised letters on the camchaincover. I also know it came from a crashed Elan +2, so it seems to be the 115 bHp version. Claimed, off course... ;-) Here's another problem; I thought I had a five speed gearbox, left by the former owner. This turns out to be a four speed, from the same +2, so it should match my engine. Perhaps this fourspeed will suit my S3b from 1978 better? That's still got the fourspeed it came with mated to my TwinCam, and the 'box needs to be serviced. Wouldn't even know if it differs from mine, other then the shift lever. That won't match my transmission-tunnel for sure, but can perhaps be modified my mounting the end-piece from my standard four-speed to it!? Ah, descisions, descisions, descisions... Hahaha! Jilles. PS. Trying to get things fixed for Croix.
