JimmyRocks
MrsRocks had the se7en all day today and had parked onthe drive. I went out to put it in the garage... After a few miles the speedo suddenly died - needle just dropped from 70ish to nil. Tachometer died also. I have no mechanical knowlege or experience, but any ideas 🤔 Is there a likely easy fix, or am I going to need to get help 🤔 Any advice greatly appreciated  James Yellow Roadsport 115, 5 speed. Peter Carmichael
Is it a mechanical or electronic speedo - usually the 90 degree drive dteaches at the gearbox end.

frog-one
Like PeterC says, it is either the cable or the gauge. Detach the cable from the back (I think you squeeze it like a kid-proof bottle cap) and pull. Whilst the car is being driven (down the _long_ drive?) does the central core turn? If "yes" then gauge, if "no" then cable. I am not sure that gauges can be repaired but either way (cable/gauge) are simple replacements Tacho is almost certainly electical so I would assume that the reason for it stopping is different to the speedo? Check cables are fixed and fuses not blown; then (if you are not comfortable with auto electrics) hand it over to someone who is 😳
JimmyRocks
Thanks guys. Speedo and tacho seemed to fail at the same moment, so I assumed they were the same fault. Will have a look and see today.
Area Representative Richard Price Posted October 19, 2003 Area Representative Share Posted October 19, 2003 Jimmy, Have you sorted this? What year is the car? If its 2001 or later, the instruments and heater share a fuse (fuse 2). This may explain why the failed at the same time, otherwise it will be a coincidence as the tacho is electrical and the speedo mechanical on pre 2001 cars.
