You first have to measure the spring rate, and then work out how much the spring needs to be extended (say X mm) when in place and at rest to generate the recommended 40N (9lb) pull on the cable (see "My calculations went something like this" in the Guide). Then you bend the hooks at each end of the spring such that, when installed and at rest, it is extended by X.If you have two springs, modify each spring so that it is extended by X/2, generating a pull of 20N.There's nothing magical about using two springs rather than one. I used two because the spring rate of CQ13 was insufficient for a single spring to do the job (plus they pull evenly on each end of the clevis pin).
