Duratec dry sump kit

Recommended Posts

Am thinking of buying and fitting this to my 360r over the winter and would appreciate advice from anyone with direct experience of fitting one please? Is it a practical job for a small lockup garage and does it require specialist knowledge that precludes a handy amateur mechanic

many thanks

simon

The job won't be too bad but you will need to retime the engine as the pump is driven from a small chain behind the timing chain, from memory, and I believe the dry sump uses a different one to the standard Ford one.

If you can take it out and put it on a stand it will be easy enough.

If you opt for the Raceline version it an be done in situ, have the car on blocks under the wheels to gain more access.

Yes you will need to retime the engine and therefore replace the diamond washers (2) on the crank pulley and the pulley bolt too along with diamond washers for the cam sprockets too if you disturb them, CC have them in stock and much cheaper than going to Ford.

You have a couple of options on the DS tank either the Triangular Brise version that fits in front of the engine or my preferred option to use a round one at the end of a short passenger footwell - if your considering the later BM me and I can give you the details of the Ralloy one I used and where I had the unions fitted.

Hose and fittings from Torques in Monmouth, they have a shop on eBay, you with need -12 hose and fittings, and -8 for the breather from the tank.

Catch tank again several options and massively varying prices, I run a little square on which fits neatly on the bulkhead.

Worth adding a sensor temp sensor boss to the filter plate on the sump pan in order to link with a oil temp gauge.

Thank you 7 wonders, helpful

i am also planning to upgrade cams and it seems to make sense to do at same time if timing will be affected. Regards the dry sump, im planning in buying the caterham kit without alteration to keep things simple and avoid impacting resale value. Also like the layout of their kit.

i already have an oil temp sensor and will definitely keep it, useful

regards the cams, am planning on also purchasing from Caterham and doing a straight swap, understand my 2016 engine already has correct springs and injectors so would just need to find someone local to map it (se3 blackheath).
