xkeg4
I've just picked up my 1985 Supersprint from the garage after passing the MOT and I have my Summer 'knock' back. It only appears in very hot weather - so it start early summer and goes away in the Autumn. Sounds like a light 'clunk' from the off side rear (over my shoulder) but goes away when the weather cools down.I've been under the car several times and can't see anything so HELP ! Has anyone any thoughts - I believe its a Marina back axle ...
MADMALC
Sounds like the A frame bush is passed it's best. Put your fingers firmly on the bush and get an assistant to push/rock the car as violently as they can from side to side and check for movement. They are prone to oil contamination which results in the rubber becoming soft. Area Representative Piers300 Posted June 16, 2018 Area Representative Share Posted June 16, 2018 I had an 85 Super Sprint and the rear A frame bushes were replaced every season. I never replaced the others and probably should have.
xkeg4
Ah thanks - I had the A frame bushes replaced two years ago - sounds like it should be an annual thing then.
xkeg4
Thanks - seems a common issue then.
martinburr9gmail.com
Hi It's also worth checking the wheel isn't moving in and out. The Ital axle can sometimes develop end float. Jack the car up on the side the noise is coming from ,make sure the handbrake is off and see if the wheel moves in and out. (Chock the front wheels )

john milner
I had an odd knock behind my right shoulder a few weeks ago. After I checked the boot and behind the seats for anything rolling about I feared that some kind of mounting bush had failed. Then I noticed that the end of the boot cover was raised and the top mounting of my inertia seatbelt could swing and touch the tub. I put the cover in its right place and not heard the knock since.
