thompster
Trawling the archives has left me more confused than I started so what's the definitive answer on whether EU2 Supersport Camshafts will work in an EU3 head with EU3 ECU?I know the EU3 engine has a camshaft sensor fitted but found the following in a posting saying thaty the cams could be used in a 10 year old discussion: Whilst the cam sensor is in place on the Supersport engines, it is not actually used by the ECU - it is there just to fill the hole! So... can anyone confirm (or otherwise) that EU2 SS cams will work in an EU3 engine? Thanks, James.
Ian Mackenzie
Here are my thoughts....EU2 cams will fit ito EU3 engine....but....the EU3 ECU will still look for the cam signal to run sequential injection....I'm not sure what the ECU does without the cam signal, it may be smart enough to go to grouped injection with the loss of the signal.....Oily may be able to advise, or failing that Z&F should be able to advise, or even to relash the ECU.CheersIan
oilyhands
EU2 cams have been used by Caterham in EU3 SS engines with seemingly no ill effects, I would have expected the ECU to go into limp mode if it was missing cam phase sensor input, but since the engines run faultlessly either the ECU adjusts or the calibration ignores the sensor input anyway.Oily
thompster
Many thanks both. I can't quite see how it can work with no cam sensor - presumably the ecu goes by the Crank sensor info but that wouldn't take into account the cam timing. Good to hear it works though, however that is..
oilyhands
The cam phase sensor is only needed for sequential injection, the ECU can run the engine without it by running the injection grouped or batched.Oily
