Heater Blanking Plate

Potentially numpty question but hopefully with a straight forward answer. I got rid of my heater recently and fitted the blanking plate from CC. Despite it being too big, I needed the to use the car (those blats do't drive themselves!) so I did a temp fix. Well now is the time to sort it properly.

What's the best way of making a neat and tidy job, should I trim the top or can I drill the scuttle rivets out, bend the metal away and 'tuck it in'?

Also, do these blanking plates come like this on the factory cars?

I found it an easy fit but as you surmise the top holes didn't line up so I just drilled through the original scuttle holes to allow it to be fixed at the top .

The only odd thing now is that I have half a dozen black rivets and the rest are painted blue .

PS I used two bolts to fix the panel in to the rivnuts normally used to fix the heater ( mine is a 2004 chassis , others might be different ) so that the panel was centrally located and in the correct position tight to the vertical bulkhead before I riveted the rest in place .
