Slight play in inner track rod ball joint

This was a recent MOT advisory on my '92 Sprint. Questions ;

i) Is it worth trying to adjust this or should I order a track rod kit from CC ?

ii)Do I need to remove the rack ? (looks like it to drill out the locking pin )

iii)If so I might attempt to upgrade the top wishbone arangement to the later type - could anyone advise what bits are required and if this should be attempted by a semi-skilled bodger ?
