Track day tyre choice for 7,5 front and 8,5 rear ?

I'm lost ☹️.....

Wheels are std R500 MB

Should I choose:

205front and 215 rear R888 ? but they are 205/60 front and 215/45 rear: is that not a problem ?

205 A048 all round but too small for rear isn't it ?

215 ZZR but too wide for front isn't it ?

215 front and 235 rear Khumo V70 ?

It's not really tyre performance question but more a best fitting one as I had bad experience in past: tyres knocking rear ARB and cycle wing bracket...

What is you choice and feedback ?

Thanks for your help ! *thumbup*

Having this delema myself, depends what your road going wheels/ tyres are going to be so that they fit under the cycle wings.....

For the track been told 185 / 205 are best, for the road decided on Khumo 175 and 235 this keeps the profile at the same height

Marcos,

The wheels are actually 6.5/8.5 if they're standard R500 MB's.

185/195 up front and 205 rears are what most people use in 048's, 888's, CR500's

You'll never find/afford 😳 a 215 888 even though you see them advertised.

Kumho's you've got advice for, ZZR's don't know *confused*

You're right Paul I have non standard 7,5 front (2,5 outer + 5 inner)

As:

-215 R888 are not available

-185 ZZR are too small for 7,5 front and 215 ZZR are to wide for them

Choice reduced too:

-205 R888 or A048R all round (As they fit 8,5 rear they will fit 7,5 front)

-215 front and 235 rear Khumo V70 ?

Advices still very welcome (or alternative tyre manufacturer/size)

Thanks 😶‍🌫️

Given your wheel sizes, 215 front and 235 rear Khumo V70 is a pretty good choice. Medium or hard compound depending on your power output and driving style. I use hard - they take a couple of laps to warm up but are good after that. A few fellow sprinters have tried medium and found they went off a bit quickly.

Hi Guys, following on from this, if it was a choice between V70A's in 215/235 sizes and new avon ZZR's 185/215 sizes for track use, with ocassional road, which would be best?

7" fronts/8.5"rears.

Did i read somewhere that trackday treaded tyres were being made illegal on the road, i assume v70a would still be OK?

regards

Jon

I have 215 Kumhos front and 235 rears which works well *thumbup*

I plumped for medium front and hard rear compounds from memory

They do fit nicely under the RIF front wings and certainly look purposeful, the Kumhos are road legal and perform well on road and track.

But I am still uncertain whether this is the way to go, they are quite heavy tyres and you end up with a high unsprung weight which just seems wrong *confused*

I am contemplating buying some lightweight rims and CR500s or ZZRs instead *eek*

Interesting..so perhaps a lightweight alternative solution is 215 ZZR front and rear as they fit both 7,5 and 8,5 rims

As have seen 205 R888 on 8,5 on a friend car and they look not right.

Choice will be V70 or ZZR

Just need to find the better supplier now

ACB10's + MB's = you won't get lower unsprung weight *eek*

Paul

From a technical point of view you're right Paul...but wife is not agree as ACB10 are 50% more expensive than V70/ZZR *mad*
