Immobiliser problem

My K series seven has an Immobiliser which is playing up. Its an Apollo system fitted back in 2001 (prior to me owning the car)and I understand the manufacturer is now out of business....

The system works via a fob on the key ring which when in proximity to an aerial fitted round the ignition barrel *should* de-activate the immobiliser. However, recently I am having repeated problems in getting the bl**dy thing to de-immobilise even when the fob is touching the aerial.

Anyone any ideas what I can do or failing that does anyone know of a reputable immobiliser expert in my area (Bedfordshire)???

Thanks in advance...

Dave

According to my handbook the fob contains a CR2032 battery. It also says "A good sign that the battery needs replacing is reduced range".

I'm not trying this on my own as it will probably leave a mark but the instructions say:

1/ Carefully prise handset apart, starting from the key ring end using a coin or small screwdriver.

2/ Slide battery out. Avoid touching circuits or clip.

3/ Press & hold each button in turn for at least five seconds to remove residual current.

4/ Fit new battery + side up.

5/ Reassemble handset.

6/ Operate lock button at least four times.

Do you have a spare? If that works OK then the problem is likely to be with the fob, in which case you should be able to buy (eBay) and define a replacement. If it does not then the problem is likely to be the immobiliser.

Sounds like you'll need to consult a specialist either way.

This company sells the transponders. It might be worth giving them a ring.

They also have a help forum that you can post your question on.

Also found this replacement aerial for the Apollo 780. This sounds like the most likely problem, so it might be worth a try at £5.99. However, before you do that why not try disconnecting and reconnecting the aerial in case it's shifted position and is not cleanly connected.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Just noticed your links, which are for the same company. *rolleyes* I'm obviously putting helpfulness above observation. *redface* Still, try the aerial jiggling or replacement - Although worth chatting to the above company first.

Just had a look through their forums (yes, I'm bored) and found this. Sounds like your problem, so my original idea about the aerial may well be correct.

I'll stop bothering you now............... 😬

Hi Mort, ta for all the info - much appreciated. I had already contacted that company - they were the ones who told me the manufacturer gone bust.

I shall check your idea re aerial connection etc as a firts option, then buy a new aerial. If that doesnt work it seems ot be £150 to £180 for someone to come out and cut the old system out and replace with a new one.
