OT Citroen Xsaradeisel low power problem

Recommended Posts

Just a long shot before I take a trip down to the independant citreon garage.

My 1999 2.l hdi deisel has just shown the engine "warning" light and the engine will not run above 2,200 rpm. no strange noises just a lack of urge. starts fine seems as if a engine govenor has been switched on.

Any pointers?

Regards John.

It has gone into limp-home mode, meaning the drastically lowered rev limit. The cause of this can be a number of things, possibly a loose sensor connection, but your independent Citroen specialist can plug the car into diagnostics and read off the codes and fix the problem. Or buy yourself an OBDII reader from eBay and you can check the codes, reset the light and work out what the problem is.

Hi John- it could be the air mass meter, a common problem on modern engines. Not all of these so called cheap code rearers are reliable for reading fault codes. Any decent garage will use a more expensive unit that will give a far more accurate set of codes etc.

Suggest you visit a Bosch diagnostic centre.. they recently diagnosed a prob on my citroen diesel.. not cheap at £75 including reset (once the prob had been fixed), but well worth it for the peace of mind.

Sadly, most small independants just cannot keep up with the costs of ever updated diagnostic tools/software.

Good luck getting sorted... Andy
