BDR Facet pump identification

This picture shows my old Facet pump and one I have had in stock for many years (ten of fifteen?). Question is, is what is the spec of the newer one? Indeed of the old one as a matter of interest. I am inclined to think it doesn't matter what the pressure is given it goes through a regulator where I can see my desired fuel pressure.Sound right? I gave up trying to disconnect the old pumo black wire (the 12v feed) so cut it and fitted a spade to match the newer pump so it makes no oddes which I refit. I removed it because yesterday when replacing the petrol hoses by hands became stained with a sort of black dye when petrol came out of what I now know is the inletchamber, so I figured must need a clean out but in fact practically nothing  in there except some small balck particles, so I am supposing the black dye was these particles slowly degarding. Now cleaned with an airliine. Is the tank full of black particles? Getting the wooden boot floor out is a project in itself I have yet to consider. The fuel filler is vertical in the boot and prevent removal of the floor; except by the looks of it if I remove the 50mm (?) filler hose. Petrol at the carburretors end looks clean. No black dye when I get that on my hands.I will dismantle the old regulator and see if that is full of anything unleasant. The old one looks bad because it was a rodent home for a few years.

That code on the newer one is e11*72/245*95/54*0536*01 and on a foot of the newer one 480 532E

I gather from google they Facet use the same codes today, BUT they have dropped the trailing letter "E". I THINK the difference is these older ones run and stop when pressure is "up" whereas the new ones run permanently all the time.

With thanks to oldandrewe - newer one is good to replace the old.

Now the work starts..

FACET PUMP SPEC

The specification and I see  also instructions in there:

Authentic Facet Red Top Cylindrical 'Works' Fuel Pump - New Solid State Circuitry

- Competition 480532E / RTW506

Facet 480532 Red Top Cylinder Fuel Pump - RTW506

Specification:- Competition.       Pump:-  480532E
Voltage:- 12v.   Earth:- Neg
Pressure (Psi):- 6.0-8.0.    My Dellortos require 1.5 to 2 psi so this is fine.
Flow:- US Gallons/Hr 40.    Dry Prime Height in Mtrs:- 0.6.   Thread Size:- 1/4 npt.   Operating Temperature:- -40¼ to +180¡ F (all Models)

Average Run Time or MTBF:- 6000 hrs.    Legal Requirements:- Certified & Complies With EEC 95/54 Requirements.        Length:-140mm Diameter:- 54mm Weight:-0.7kg

Fuel Union Installation:- When fitting fuel unions, either wrap PTFE tape around the threads or use Loctite 243 to create a fuel proof seal

I have  both, tempted to use the Loctite 243, not sure why.. I think because it forms a seal regardless whereas PTFE depends on tightness, which can suffer in a high vibration environment and depends on me getting it tight enough.

Please Note:- Designed and manufactured to automotive specification and not recommended for the maintenance of flight - not even low flying ?

So, now then.

"NEW" FACET PUMP NOT WORKING AFTER FITTING

Log story short: after fitting the new Facet pump and switching it on: no fuel pressure, no fuel to carbs.

Solution: SUCK from the engine end until fuel arrives - I added a long piece of clear plastic hose to the fuel line so I could see when the fuel arrived, gently blew it back in to the fuel line, but not too far, and refitted to the system. I well remember the taste of petrol and have no desire to be reminded.

If you blow hard enough you will hear bubbles I think from the petrol tank, so suck the fuel back to where it needs to be at the engine end - this little test shows us the fuel flow system is flowing freely, it doesn't need much blow or suck pressure, very little really.

What this does is "prime" the pump, despite these pumps not needing to be primed. That said, it's easy, but you have to know (how) to do it - took me a lot of googling to come across it. Yet So simple.

FACET PUMP UNIONS

Fitting the new pump using the old unions was a real steward. The old unions are the wrong size for 8mm hose. Looks to me like they are deisgned for 10mm ID hose. I have managed to fit the hoses temporarily and await correct size unions I have ordered. This temp fitting allows me to do the float chamber calibration work.
