Corrosion prevention

I waxed the shell with Autogym for protection - I figured that this might be easier while the car is still in pieces. It also might give a bit of protection from the masking tape I am about to put on around the front suspension area.

The powder coating on a little of the bottom of the frame was scuffed so I sanded it and painted it with Hammerite.

I also gave the engine bay a coat of Dimitrol to hopefully reduce the rate of corrosion; especially between the steel and aluminium joints.

If the Dimitrol looks Ok once dry, I may go and coat more of the underneath.

(NB I'm making this up as I go along - don't trust me to get it right)

Note my user name change - in retrospect Pentangle was bit naff.

Preservation; I've seen other blogs that recommend Dinitrol around the fuel tank and up the sides of the foot wells; one guy has even blocked off the gap between foot well and shell with a rubber baffle to prevent 'grot' getting in. Another recommend I've seen is to put (stick) the IVA trim around the front wishbone holes before you tape up - apparently it's v difficult to get it on once the suspension is assembled.

I was interested in this and had a look at a Roadsport that was built at my school (I'm a teacher). I notice that the roadsport has a few more unfilled cavities. Perhaps when this car was designed, corrosion was taken into account.

Thanks for the note about the IVA trim. What do people use to stick the IVA in place?
