Caterham 160 Build Blog

I ordered my 160 in April 2014. Here is my blog. I hope it maybe useful and interesting to others.

Caterham 160  Expected delivery November 2014.
Full Screen and weather equipment, carpets, lowered floors, push button start, leather seats, Momo steering wheel, heater, Race 4pt harness, Track day roll bar.
Ballistic orange

The lowered floor provides the driver with a clearer view and the 4pt harness and track day roll bar are for improved safety. I understand that access the Lotus 7 club track days is only possible with a track day roll bar too.

Why did I go for a 160? I definitely wanted to build my own car, I was impressed with my test drive, reviews and friends were very positive about it, there are significant savings over a Roadsport and it can be driven to capacity at road legal speeds.

Tools and Equipment (so far!)

Strongman Tools
Trolley jack and axle stands (discount with L7club membership)

Halfords
Socket set, prof torque wrench 8-60Nm, prof torque wrench 60-300Nm. Birzman deadblow hammer

Maplin
Garage alarm

I rang up the DVLA today - I think it is sorted...and will get a registration emailed through.

I hope to pick up the car next Saturday (30th).

Hello folks,I picked up the car today - it is absolutely superb, I love it (see latest blog for full extent of enthusiasm). 250miles on the clock.

i noticed squeaky brakes too Peter. And my oil gauge goes into the red when idling to Martin (but reassured by your post). How is your French trip?

Hi Simon great news about the car I'm up to 900 miles now doing an oil and filter and rear axle oil change before we head to France on Thursday. I too have squeaky rear brakes but the noise is decreasing slowly and if you hit the brakes hard then all is good. I've grounded a few times going over speed bumps, it's much worse 2 up with luggage so I will have to be careful, about the ramps on the ferry!  Car is great fun and seems to give between 40 and 45 mpg depending on how hard you hit the go pedal, back at the end of June for a full report

Hi Simon

Just doing my built up vehicle report now, and mine was prefilled by Caterham, leaving the second page completely blank. What did DVLA ask you to do? I'm keen not to get knocked back at this late stage...!
