  2. Has the market for X-flow cars evaporated, or has the used 7 market taken a dip generally? What is the going rate now and has anybody else had experience of selling a car like mine recently?

  4. Hi guys, fitted a rose jointed A-frame to my live axle car to overcome the A-frame bush disintegration problem. Trouble is the bearing is held in place by a circlip on either side and now the circlips are knackered and the axle floats about sideways ☹️ so I am back to square 1.

Anyone have experience of this and ow to stop it happening again. I am running 032R's and do a bit of track work but am amazed how quickly the thing has failed. Have thought about maching wider circlip groove and fitting a pair either side - dunno *confused* - help.

In my experience the bushes on a live axle a-frame take a real pounding, much more so than on a de-dion car, because the whole axle is articulated. The standard Caterham rubber bushes don't last very long in oily conditions, so I tried Powerflex polyurethane ones. They were a bit better in putting up with the oil, but one set lasted only one track session *thumbdown*.

In the end, the only proper way to solve the problem is to fit a rose jointed or spherical bearing in place of the rubber bush. Caterham can supply a kit of bearing and suitably modified a-frame. I think the cost was about £100, but well worth it.

  6. Due to fatal seizing of pinion bearing at Silverstone on Saturday, I am in need of a replacement crownwheel and pinion for my Ital axle. I have a 3.6:1 set which I could swop, or happy to come up with suitable cash for a good 3.9:1 set.

    Needed urgently please!

  7. Hi Graham

According to Neil of NE the ultimate figure was difficult to assess because the back end of the car had to bee strapped down HARD to stop the wheels slipping, the equivalent of pulling up a steep hill! However, he reckoned on an adjusted figure at the flywheel of around 165bhp at around 6800rpm. The power curve was nice and flat from 6000 through to 8000 rpm with useful torque around 125ft/lb at a shade under 6000. His comment was simply that it was the best crossflow he had had on the rollers, which he didn't have to say because I had already written the cheque out!

The original problem of poor midrange was down to being set up over rich, it now pulls like a train from 4000 and flies from 6000. All in all £100 well spent.

  8. Just returned from a rolling road session at NE Motors in Ditcheat which is just south of the Bath and West Showground near Shepton Mallet in Somerset. I can thoroughly recommend booking a session if you are struggling with your twin Webers. Neil , the proprietor, had my steel crossflow on twin 45's running smoothly and producing it's power where it should after just a couple of hours. If you have never had your engine set up properly then you don't know what you are missing, it is well worth it.

For information call NE Motors on 01749 860123 and tell them that the 'bloke with the green and yellow Caterham' sent you.

  9. Hi Felix

Sounds good, I like a bit more thigh support and the extra width might help too!!!

Can you tell me, do the brackets mount to the floor or the cross members on the chassis, only I sit tall and need to be right on the floor in order to get under the rollcage. Equally the seat would need to go as afar back as possible to give adequate leg room. If this all sounds possible then I am interested at £60.00

Whereabouts are you, call me tomorrow on 01275 331331 or email me direct shubner@globalnet.co.uk, I am in the Bristol area, but get about a bit - wahey!!

  11. Hi Noisy

Yep we could swap the crown wheel and pinions without too much difficulty. I am looking for lower overall gearing to go racing, whilst the 3.6:1 would effectively raise your gearing by 10%, which helps on the road when cruising etc. Also, I found that running 185/70 021R's again helped the gearing. My car is also a 96 car, with about 10k miles on it, so I dont foresee any problems! - famous last words.

You may need to get someone to help you to put the diff back together although it shouldn't be too difficult, I am running a Quaife ATB diff.

Let me know if you are interested in a swap.

  12. I am looking to change the 3.6:1 CWP in my ATB diffed Ital axle for a 4.1:1 (or possibly 3.9:1). Do you have that 4.1:1 CWP set lying under the bench which never got fitted? Or anybody with a VX classic with the standard 3.9:1 CWP looking for taller gearing who would like to swap.

N.B. I dont need the whole diff, just the cwp.

  13. ITG have a reputation as being the best performance foam air filter. What is the general wisdom on this topic, I am running twin 45's on an xflow and wonder if anyone else has compared the performance of ITG v K&N v Pipercross etc. Aslo who is the best supplier?

    Thoughts please!

  14. Xflow rocker cover - Mass Racing polished alloy - for dry sump application. Could be easily modified for wet sump use, has threaded breather adapter on gearbox end.

Offers iro £30 - looks a lot smarter than the Caterham item.
