  1. .....I've been happily using the 7ES plugs, but recently popped into the motor factors without my usual parts list , and got given a set of BPR6E correct for a 1600 crossflow engine. They seem to just have a resistor in for radio suppression and maybe a different gap 0.7 vs 0.6 (but the gap can be set)

So it just looks like it may just be a plug that has a resistor and also runs a bit colder than the 7ES

    See here

Seems to run fine - anyone know of any long term issues with this plug ?

  2. They shouldn't leak - check the float level is correct.

There are two float distances to set up , one for Webers with brass floats and one with plastic floats.

Pretty easy to fix, sorted mine out last year.

  3. Caterham 1.8 Supersport spec (with a brand new engine that has only covered around 50 miles)

Today we drained my cooling system and fitted the following parts:

    Radtec radiator

    Silicone hoses

82 degree thermostat (drilled at the top with a 3mm hole)

Bleed tee (fitted to the highest heater hose)

We used the following method to refill the system.

Jack up front of car as high as the jack would go.

    Remove top rad bleed screw

    Remove heater bleed tee cap

Fill slowly via expansion bottle, massaging all hoses to help expel and air.

When the coolant flowed from the bleed screws, they were done up.

The car was then lowered to the ground, started and left to idle.

As the temperature started to rise, the level of the coolant in the expansion tank rose, to the point where it overflowed and we had to fit the cap.

The temperature reached 98 on the gauge, where the radiator fan kicked in and the temp dropped by a few degrees (96/7)

It stayed at this temperature until we switched off the engine.

Can anyone sanity check this as I’m really unfamiliar with the K series and know it can suffer from airlocks and cooling issues.

Unfortunately were not able to drive the car at the moment as were waiting for some parts for the rear diff.

  5. For a Friend......

I have seized my Ford Type 2 gearbox (1st gear welded itself to the output shaft), so I’m hoping someone out there might have something lurking in a dusty corner that will get me back rolling.

I need an output shaft and Quaife straight-cut 1st gear, so if you have a complete std box or a box of quaife cogs I could purchase, that would be very good indeed.

I’m not sure how much modification work would be involved in changing to a different box altogether, but any ideas welcome.
