.... Not sure why I said brake fluid, meant coolant, must be cracking up!!!
-
I picked up a Focus with the eco boost engine just before Christmas and at the handover they specifically pointed out that there was an orange die in both the engine oil and the brake fluid (looked slightly emulsified) which is apparently used to check circulation and will gradually disappear. They also mentioned that levels can drop if there are any air pockets left in the system and suggested I bring it back after a 1000 miles to get them checked ( free but not mandatory). Sounds like he should drop it back to a dealer and get it topped up.

Yes, improved by a couple of volts to just over 8 after clean up but still indicated no device detected whilst cranking
-
Hi Jonathan
We did measure the voltage with a multimeter across Piers new battery and this dropped to about 10.8 whilst cranking which we thought was fine.
The figure that we Improved was the one measured on the Easymap software which went from about 6 to 8.5v after we cleaned all the earths. Basically we think that the Ecu is not getting sufficient volts to fire the injectors (easy map indicates 'no device detected' as soon as you start cranking). The ecu power supply checked out ok at 12.8 v but On Arnies suggestion we connected the second battery direct to the ecu power feed (purple wire with spade connection to brown / white ECU power leads) but this just replicated previous readings although the smell of fuel did seem stronger at this point - this may have been a coincidence.
i think Piers has now renewed / checked all the various bits except the throttle position indicatorwhich is his next job so not sure where you go from there. One suggestion was Possible problem with the loom? But I'm most definitely not an expert!

Spotted in Low Flying this month and wandered if you were the same David I worked with in West Byfleet in the 80's?

Hi Steven
I thought it was you in your new 7 but could not even make out the colour because of the sun. Sure you are enjoying it already but guessing it won't be any easier to keep up with you....

I will shortly need to replace the hoses on my 3 year old 1.4k series and was planning to modify the circuit as outlined in the September 2012 Lowflying article. However when I compare my existing setup to that shown in the article I have an extra connection - the 1/4" hose from inlet manifold to expansion bottle has a T piece in it that connects to an outlet on the top of the radiator (the layouts both before and after the mod are shown without the radiator connection).
Not being that technical I'm guessing that I can just leave the Connection to the rad in place but has anyone done this mod that could shed any light on this?
Thanks

Spotted you at the Brenzett roundabout with full hood up going towards Hamstreet. We (three of us) were stopped at the Service station before tackling a rather damp *eek* but fun run round Camber and back up the Military Road. Great morning for it 😬 😬 😬

Hi Tom
I did wave from the front of the convoy you saw and then I think I got them all lost again...
Welcome to blatchat and hopefully we'll see you on the road soon 😬 😬 😬

Gave you a wave and a toot as we passed (silver X1) a few miles before the m25 junction. Great evening for a blat.

I had the same idea and just ordered a set from Seven Speed - costs etc on their web site. Am also interested in any tips on fitting although my discs have done 4500 miles.
Cheers

Gary, pretty sure it was you - hope you had a good run out & avoided the bigger puddles!

Had exactly the same symptoms on my (1yr old) 1.4 k series oil gauge. Changed to mechanical pressure gauge and not been worried about oil pressure since. Only took half hour, cost around £35, well worth the trouble - there are numerous threads on how to do this.

Green spotted around 10.30am BHM on Elham Valley Road going towards Barham.
