  2. Hi,

    Just take it off and put it in the parts bin, I can't remember blocking anything off when I did the emerald conversion. After buying the emerald get it mapped I was really disappointed at the performance improvement with someones else's map, world of difference when I had my own 😬

  3. Tim,

  4. Tim,

    Although I have never used the amp with a PS3 there are instructions in the manual to connect games consoles to the front panel. The choice of connections is video in and sound via optical or analogue L+R. The unit is quite flexible and any device I have connect via digital gave access to the 5.1/7.1 surround sound.

    Additionally I would expect that you could use one of the normal rear inputs to achieve the same.

    Yes you can connect the TV to video out, again their are choices of the type of connection. This AV amp was one of the last prior to the introduction of HDMI so as long as your TV and games console offer these earlier inputs/outputs I would imagine you would be OK.

    As you are local I am happy for you to try before you buy if that helps make up your mind.

  5. Kevsta,

    Thanks for your interest, I am open to offers on the items, seems a waste them just sitting in the boxes and would reduce the grief I get about my toys . I was offering the lot as a single item so that someone could get up and running in one go. In reality the Amp is the lions share of the package (both size and cost). Make me an offer and I will see what happens over the next few day's.

  6. Having upgraded the TV & surround sound last year I now have the following surplus.

    Black Denon AVR-1905 RDS Receiver and Amp DS 7.1 here

    Black Denon DVD-1710 DVD/cd player here

    Elac 5.1 surround speakers silver (including quality cable)here

    All working and in first class condition. The original leads/manuals and controls are present with the Denon items in their original boxes looking for £200 + P&P although GONADS is probably better. Can send some pictures if required.

  7. Hi Peter,

    I live in Culcheth and there are two other owners that I know, unfortunatly we are all K series engines though. I can't really help this week but would be happy to catch up and see what can be done and see if any of the other locals can help.

    We also go along to LADs and MADs meets where there are more people and experience and pleanty of room in the car for a lift.

    Failing that I am sure we can get you to someone who will be able to help in a more professional manner. I will drop you a mail with my contact details.

    Is the immobiliser the vecta slot in the keyboard type, if so they're notorious for failing and I seem to remember that they immobilise the starter motor and the coil. I think they are reasonably easy to remove/bypass.

  8. Go for the samco dry sump kit with seven hoses and the elbows identified by Paul. If you buy the drysump version it fits on the wet sump just saves money if you upgrade in the future.

    Top Rad

    Bottom Rad

    Submarine (J pipe)

    Thermostat to Heater valve

    Heater valve to water rail

    Head to expansion

    Submaribe to expansion

    The two elbows are shortened to fit between valve and heater. If you buy new hose clips sit down as they tell you the price!

  9. Looks a nice car/spec although no numbered plaque, no full carbon, later rounded edge (SVA) dials and R500 wishbones. I also think it's a bit early to be a pukka numbered SLR, the chassis number should look like SDK RD(KorS) L RD V nnnnnn if it is. (See FAQ)

    SDK = Caterham

    RD = Right hand drive de-dion

    K = Kit or S = Factory built

    L = superlight

    RD = VHPD engine

    V = reg year 97

    nnnnnnn = Chassis No

    I am sure Caterham Midlands, if asked, will confirm and be able to tell you the original spec so you can get an idea of the upgrades and attention that this car has been subject to, it night have started life as a racer.

    If I am correct this shows its a bitsa and as such I feel is not worth the SLR premium that is clearly being asked. I would not be concerned about the age so long as the car looks good and drives well - there were problems with chassis powder coating in 96-97.

    Just seen the V reg at Caterham South that looks a more original example.

  10. On behalf of owner Andy Stoneley who can't post on Blatchat. Wanted one or two front Bilsteins for a 95 supersport race de dion with narrow track. The unit(s) is to replace one with a leaking seal so in usable condition please.

    Contact Andy andystoneley at aol dot com who is located near to Oulton Park.

    Cheers

  11. The block is the cheapest part you can source good secondhand parts and build a 200 bhp engine but you will need some new items. I did it that way and for the parts alone it was about £2500. Add to that TBs Filters exhaust and again if you can find them 2nd hand you are Need another £1500. The engine will then need to be assembled and mapped to include porting of the head and possibly balancing, unless you do it yourself that's another £1,500 - 2,000. Plus and the little things you don't expect but may need, new starter hoses, clutch etc.

  12. Speak to Dave Walker at Emerald he will map the car with a wide band lamda, I was going to buy an LC1 before the trip to the RR but since it is now mapped properly don't feel a need for it.

    The only real problem is that Emerald is a long drive.

  13. I can't comment on the length of time the VHPD engine will last but I certainly expect to get more than 30,000 miles out of mine, it depends how the car has been used - mostly road or as a track toy. Road use should put the engine under a lot less stress.

    Your best speaking to someone like DVA power who will give you a labour cost and prices of parts are good should you need them. If your like me you will always go beyond the basic refresh but I feel about £2,500 would be a good contingency fund that would allow for a refresh with some performance enhancements included 😬

    When I took my engine for rebuild (secondhand with no history) the total cost including new oil and water pumps bearing gaskets etc including an engine balance, head port and verniers was about £2,200. You then need the engine mapping at about £350 in you already have a programmable ECU and want to get the best out of the engine.

    You can of course do it for less or spend considerably more, one area I would not cut out is the engine balancing, it took a lot to convince me but now I would not hesitate to have it done in future.

  14. When my speedo broke I asked if it was illegal to drive without one and told not. However, sir it is your responsibility to drive within the speed limit. I saved getting tickets by putting some temporary marks on the rev counter that corresponded to speeds in 5 & 6.

    Not ideal but easy to do for a couple of weeks.
