  1. Hi Garry,

Just checking in to see if there is any news or ETA for the binders ?

I could do with a couple to bring me up to date with my collection.

    Cheers,

    John

  2. *thumbup* *arrowup* Thanks for the link !!

It's odd, if you search for "5W/50" it doesn't find it, but does find 5W/40 oil ,which is why I figured they had stopped selling it. I also searched for "Motorsport oil" which is what Comma call it, but forgot Halfords call it "Track day oil".

I've actually gone and bought some from Amazon, as it was only £22 for 5l, from the same seller RRD as recommended above as an eBay seller. I'm sure if it's watered down chip fat oil they send me it will work just as well 😬

    Cheers,

  3. Hi,

1.8K Supersport - I used to use Comma or Halfords 5W/50 Motorsport oil. Halfords seem to have stopped doing it (at least couldn't see it online) and my local motor factors have stopped stocking Comma.

I can get it online from Amazon Marketplace sellers or eBay, but I'm wary that an unscrupulous seller might re-bottle any old oild and flog it as new.

    Any known good retailers ?

    Cheers,

  4. 2 spots -

2 - another BRG/Yellow stripe parked in Grey's Court car park - you weren't the chap with a motorsport t-shirt on that we chatted to at the cafe with our dog are you ? *wavey*

  6. Hi,

Many thanks for the replies. got some follwoup queries....

Bob - re the AP racing clutch - is that becasue you have to use that one with the lightened flywheel or just a preference ? If it's a preference, how does that clutch differ from the standard one ? Bearing in mind the car is road use only I don't really want a clutch that has a feel to it as though it has teeth !

I am still debating with myself whether or not I just do the CRB (in which case I may leave the engine in the car and just shunt it forward, or pull it right out and do the grot traps, replace mounts, do the entire clutch and spiggot while I'm at it.

Still got lots to research re the CRB and preload too.

Yes I'm going to be doing this myself, with hopefully some help from some local 7'ers who have done the job before, if I can coerce them with the offer of food and liquid refreshemnt.

    Cheers,

    John

  7. Hi,

Car is a 1.8k SS with lightened flywheel..

The CRB has been noisy since I got the car 4yrs & 10k miles ago. At least, I suspect it is the CRB - it has a ticking and whirring sound most noticeable after releasing the clutch pedal when pulling away in 1st. Oddly it is quiet when the pedal is pushed down though and it is normally only heard when pulling away from a standstill and sometimes after changing into 2nd - it only lasts a few seconds then fades away. A bit odd though as I would expect a noisy CRB to be most noticeable when the clutch pedal is down *confused*

Anyhow, on the last 200 miles of a 700 mile tour of wales I noticed some difficulty sometimes changing gear. Initially I suspected maybe cable stretch, but also noticed the whirring sound from CRB has become a much louder whine.

    Here's my questions:

Does a lightened flywheel use the same clutch as an oridnary one ?

With 30k miles on the clock but no apparent clutch slipping problems, should I change the plate and cover too ? I guess what I'm asking here is what is the life expectancy of a clutch (road use only, not tracked or raced).

If I'm going to change the spigot bearing, do I need to remove the flywheel. Assuming I do change the spigot bearing, do I need a new sleeve too ?

Any idea why the CRB is quiet when the clutch pedal is pressed but momentarily noisy after pulling away - that one has me baffled ?

    Cheers,

    John

  8. Hi,

    Thanks for all the replies.

I have pretty much confirmed my battery has deceased... Immediately after taking off the conditioner the voltage was 13.something volts; swithced on the headlights and it dropped to 11.44 volts. I figure headlights take less than a starter and if it dropped that much with just headlights I reckon it prob wouldn't start the car. After switching off the headlights the voltage recovered to just 12.24 volts (they were only switched on for about 20 seconds).

Time to get a new battery then.

    Cheers,

    John

  9. Hi,

Went for a blat today, but had to jump start it as the battery could barely turn the engine over. Battery is kept on a conditioner though and the conditioner indicates it was fully charged

After about a 40 minute drive and a 3 hour rest at relatives house, engine started but it was a little sluggish turning over.

Everything was fine when I drove the car 6 weeks ago. Is this a common failure pattern for a banner battery (it is about 5 years old btw) ?

All the cells have elctrolyte in and everything else seems to be normal (ie I don't think it is a starter issue as it was fine when jumped and started ok when I put it back in the garage after another 40 minute drive back from the relatives).

    Cheers,

    John

  10. Have you got a different battery you could try - it may not be the starter but could be a faulty Powervamp or maybe it hasn't been charging properly (eg. faulty alternator).

I would start by checking the voltage on the battery at rest and also what the voltage drops to when the starter is turning. Also check all the connections to the battery, starter and earth leads are all clean and tight.

Once you have ruled out everything else, then I would suspect the starter.

    Cheers,

    John

  11. 2 spots...

Black, heading towards Arbofield from Eversley at about 2:30pm, 2 up *wavey*

Yellow, heading towards Eversley form Arborfield at about 4:00pm, also 2 up *wavey*

The black and yellow may have been the other way round, I'm losing track seeing so many 7's on the road recently !

    Cheers,

    John

  12. *wavey* Baz,

I'll claim this spot on behalf of myself and 6 other fellow ReHaBers on our way to Lymington for the IOW Blat :) We had a brilliant run down from Basingstoke that morning with great weather, great roads and very little traffic.

I'm not sure if any of us from that particular group of 7 cars are going on the Fish 'N Chip run but I know of at least one other ReHaB is.

    Cheers,

    John

  13. If it was about 2:30pm that would have been Harry. I'd pulled up behind him at the Sindlesham Mill roundabout and we both headed off towards Arborfield and pulled over for a quick chat. He headed off that way, as did I a little way back. Must have missed seeing you by seconds. Evidently a lot of 7's out yesterday afternoon *smile*

  14. Hi,

    2 spots on Sunday afternoon....

*wavey* Harry (I know, you can't reply as you haven't signed up yet) big respect having done 4k miles since you got your car late last year - that's pretty hardcore ! Hope to see you at one of the ReHaB meets soon.

Also spotted mostly Ali 7 going through Bramshill - I was about 2 cars back but couldn't overtake to catch up, gave you a wave at the junction when I turned off to head towards Hartley Wintney *wavey*

    Cheers,

    John
