  1. What sort of side impact bar is it please?

One of the newer style combined impact and intrusion bars

    E.g. https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-It_1zgcw9EA/WESlPo5zc4I/AAAAAAAADW8/cDEatFMr1aYN2H7jaQr97VEV8Itmqh6AwCLcB/s1600/IMG_9350.jpg

Or one of older style separate side impact / rear wheel intrusion bars

    E.g. http://www.alcester-racing-sevens.com/HD_SIB_Aero_Side_Labelled.JPG

I'd be interested if it's one of the newer style combined impact and intrusion bars.

    Where abouts are you located?

  2. Thanks for the advice guys. Yes, cable opperated so I will have a read thanks John. Should the spigot bearing also be replaced? I understand the spigot bearing also has a spacer-should this be replaced too or can it be reused? James
  3. I have a 2004 Academy Roadsport and am planning to swap the 1.6k for a 1.8 vvc 160.

Will it have been fitted with the AP clutch and AP cover as standard? Thinking I should replace the clutch plate while the engine is out. Where is the cheapest place to buy them?

Assume the cover plate should still be ok if its an ap one? Should I be changing anything else at the same time - release bearing, etc?

    Thanks. James

  4. Hi Andrew,

I have also acquired a 1.8 EU3 VVC and am planning to install it where my 2004 1.6 EU3 engine currently sits.

I will drop you a BM if you could also send me the JPG images for VVC and MPi please.

I will be using a local garage who also specialists in motorsport prep to do the engine swap but would like to understand what is involved with the wiring up and brief them accordingly!

    Many thanks

    James

  5. Thanks gents.  SPC ratios look good but my existing standard type 9 is pretty quiet so I am now hesitant in taking the plunge. SPC website states 'the gear tooth profiles are much larger than ford original spec and are similar to a typical S/cut gear. The .82 5th gear pair have an increased helix angle and finer pitch teeth for quieter cruising'.   I guess that the larger gear teeth profiles will be stronger but the trade off is more noise (though nowhere near as bad as straight cut).  BGH don't seem to offer ratios quite as high as SPC but does anyone know if they (or any other suppliers) are likely to be any quieter/as quiet as a standard gearbox?
