my BMW does this, it's normal for their servo brake systems, to do with vacuum as Ben mentioned.

can't help with documents, but my basic understanding is that the lambda detects oxygen levels in the exhaust gas, if it senses too much O2, more fuel is added by the ECU (less fuel if too little O2). The optimal O2 level is based on what the CAT converter requires. The CAT only works when hot, so i suspect lambda readings are not considered by the ECU until everything hot enough (hence car OK when cold). With a broken/failed lambda sensor, wrong/no signal is sent to the ECU and, from your symptoms, the ECU over-fuels (fluffy/misfire at low throttle). Also accounts for rev hunting as the ECU is looking for a signal that's not there. At high/full throttle ECU is delivering max power/fuel so the car runs and responds as normal.

I had exactly the same problem with my supersport, changed the lambda sensor, problem solved. Mine also over-fuelled like crazy so was fine on full throttle but at around town on light throttle, misfires and a serious stink of petrol! I understand Caterham lambda sensors are not great so got the replacement from another source (bosch), no problems since .

Thanks for the info, mine hits the limiter at 7,600. Will try to connect into the ECU and see if it comes alive!

Bought from another forum member earlier this year for winter use but they don't quite fit under my supersport front wings 😔!

Tyres just outside Glasgow for anybody who want to view/collect.

The standard version on mine does not work?! How is it supposed to work (i.e . what colour and when does it flash/illuminate). Any obvious things to check before I call Caterham technical (connections seem sound)?

Earlier today I found one of the bolts on my diff carirer had worked its way out and was missing . No signs of damage to the dedion but will be double checking now I've read this!

I have 6" rears on my 140 Supersport. When I enquired about 8" rears at the time of ordering the car form Caterham i was told that the car would be 'overtyred' with 8" rears. Never driven a car with 8" rears and I don't have any traction problems with mine at the moment .

I have these but I'm almost the same distance from you as Caterham! Generally very comfortable and good support but they cant your legs up and forward slightly so you probably need a removable wheel to get in and out easily (in an S3 anyway). The plastic cutouts for the harness are too high in my opinion, right in line with the back of my head (i'm 5'10").

Bosch part number 0 258 006 155 was the correct 'direct fit' version (i.e had the plug connector attached, correct length etc). Paid £90 for a Bosch version at my local garage, can be found slightly cheaper online if you hunt around.

New lambda fitted and everying running as it should be . I suspect some 'bad' fuel had a part to play in it.

Andrew, I don't have the extensions although I might consider them to give a litte more clearance!

Can't help, mine works well with minimal waving of the immobilier fob to deactivate the system

Andrew, my supersport is similar, about 50-60mm(ish) sump clearance without driver and passenger . The back end looks relatively 'high' but this was confirmed as normal at the PBC. Touch wood, no sump/road contact so far, the setup is stiff which helps prevent bottoming out, just avoid speed bumps!

Yes, was heading back to the office (Port Glasgow) in the tiptop. Managed to get a blat in the sun tonight

Just after Langbank at around 245 pm today, hope you had the factor 50 on!

Car running like a bag of spanners, exact symptoms of of other posts relating to lamda sensor:

-OK when cold

-OK under full power

-Terrible under light power

-Hunts for idle when warm.

-Also significnat unburnt fuel smell when tootling along at 30mph .

 

This all started happening within 20 miles of filling up with Shell V-power. I normally use BP Ultimate (closest garage) but have recently been using standard 95 (without isseus) during a Highland & Island trip where super-unleaded is hard to find.

 

My questions is: can different fuel have a negative effect on the lamda sensor? Or maybe I’ve just got a bad batch?

 

I guess I’ll find out when the V-power is finished which shouldn't take long this weather

Saturday, around 5:15pm, looked like heading home after a blat in the sun

I received the 36G003A close ratio box and find that it works great. As others say, request the correct box or worst case get SPC to modify at Caterhams cost.

 

From another thread, the supersport ratios appear to be: 3.6, 1.97, 1.37, 1, 0.87

Interesting, so 3.91 sounds right for the diff. 36G003A is the close ratio box and 36G003C is the standard

 

Pugwash, thanks for posting the ratios, it doesn't seem right that you have the standard and not the close ratio box

@ Shad, agree the 3.91 is workign well

 

@ ALan,mine is the BMW version and it is clearly marked on the underside of the casing, you'll see a photo in here
