Is this on your S2 ? I believe there are 9 and 10 teeth pinions , did you change your orginal starter? if so you may need to check your orginal starter pinion

Sorry to hear the x flow is wheeezing , My A series still singing nicely must be the lack of rev counter that makes it sing lots of high notes, Guess your not going to Beaulieu for the 30th reunion lots of old farts going with the tee shirts and hats etc!!

If you haven't replace the Distrubtor cap, rotor arm, plug caps (only use NGK or well known make), plug leads then change them all, the Distrubtor Doctor (google search will find him) is a good supplier of rotor arms the Lucas replacement ones are rubbish short between rivit and retaining clip, Auto Electrical Supplies are usefull and Lucas cheap coils etc, I dought if it is the coil unless its very old easy to swop over from 61?
( my misfires have been plug caps /dist caps/ rotor arms , I alway keep a spare set of everything now makes hunting the missfire easier!!)
Low battery volts will cause a missfire if you have electronic ignition

I have had encountered similar problems on my S2 A series engine in the last 32 years !!!! , first time it was the distributer cap and the second time it was spark plug lead caps. The latest dist caps are not as good as the old ones and even if they look perfect they will track and cause missfire , if you use copper HT leads then fit NGK plug caps most repro ones are rubbish , you can get Champion ones from SVC sometimes
