Hi again, many thanks for everyone's help in the ongoing 3 month rego' saga in Melbourne VIC.

If there's anyone out there as per title -  soooo next manoeuvere, - a 2005, Caterham SV with 1800 K series engine, fully roadworthied would I be able to get her onto club plates in Melbourne?

My understanding is that many kit cobras do so because they are basically a  replica of original Cobra...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks the IVA thingo explains the blank space on chassis plate, and hopefully if we go with the 860, and fingers crossed thats enough to get it past the transport egg heads -  remember the old saying "jobsworth" I think its part of the interview process for their personnel :)

Sorry should add yes I know it should be on the compliance plate but it isnt.

Very long story of awful Australian registration woe, but is anyone able ot state what the TARE or laden weight and GVM unladen weights of a Caterham Seven should be (this is a 2005 Roadsport SV, with 1.8 K series)

It would be  ahuge help to be able to find this out at the end of a 4 month epic to get the car registered....

Yes I agree wholeheartedly and have advised the new owner of the car to never return with any of his significant collection.

Wish the right of appeal were transparent but feel that the amount of time and effort is not worth it, simply removing business and advising others is the way to go (the new owner is fairly well known in his small community and this will have the requisite effect)

Many thanks posters - Its a bit tricky as I am assisting the gentleman who bought my 7 and he is about 1300 KMS away with zero mechanical knowledge, it would seem he has gone to scumbag tester who is taking everything to the Nth degree to try to extort money - however the paper is written now so all I/ we can do is try to get the "issues" rectified...

He came out with some viable faults and some ludicrous - "it has a bit of oil on the rear gearbox from speedo drive blanking but not enough to fail, same from sender unit for engine oil" - never dripped one ounce of oil anywhere ever! Plus "the threaded studs on the hubs should protrude through the wheel nuts" I've currently got an Evora, Europa and a SKoda VRS none of which protrude!

Anwyay breathe smile and wave, turns out the front discs are Jack Webb vented and under 2 years old, but I will replace and  he is not getting a cent of the work.

Sorry but also what discs are run front and rear, assuming I may need new and caterham postage to Australia will be heavy and awkward I may be able to source them locally - Sierra rear? front same?

Does anyone know the run out thicknesses for the discs? -

I'm being quoted they must be 18mm front and 9.5 mm rear minimum..... (the Quote is from a MOT tester from a special planet where they dislike Caterhams....- I'm a bit fuming with him ce la vie)

Exactly as Richard and Graham have said, and not a difficult job, Caerbont massively helpful as I was 2005, and had to ge tthe later speedo that was compatible so '07 should be fine.

Only slight furphy for me was when a heavily fresh tarred and stone chipped road allowed a stone to knock the sensor out = dead speedo, then when I moved it back in (too much) it picked up 2x pulses per bolt, so apparently I can do about 200mph just spinning wheel with my hand :)

Lovely work James, and I concur about the wrapping of primaries, a friend once fully wrapped his exhaust that was going to run inside a glass fibre sill, "just in case" sadly just in case caused a pinhole of superheated gases bursting through a  weld, onto the sill and complete flame out of car, poor guy. I "ceramiced" mine and it seems great, allegedly up to 30% less underbonnet heat.

Only thing I did do once was very similar to your handiwork but made the alloy double thickness with a 5mm air gap, the top piece had very very little heat to it, or another idea is self adhesive turbo wrap (like silvered glassfibre mat) could be applied to bottom of your lovely work.

Then again look what "belt and braces" caused my mate!

I used Westermann in Germany, superb service and good product, you may have to chat to them about your preferred weave as mine wasnt that one.

Yup on track and I am driving along thinking - whats that noise only on right handers followed by - why's that funny marshall waving a flag at me? :)

Luckily some heavy fencing wire and I finished the day - re welded more thoroughly in place and larger bobbin for good measure.

To be sure work your way back up from that drip and check anything else higher that may have leaked, sadly I've been caught like this before.

Hey Curly was it yourself who recently emigrated, did they have to "dry pack" your car - could they have removed the hose to drain the system and then not re fitted it well enough?

If you find its just the system not up to Australian climate pm me as I did a wicked two fan and cowling set up and mine even in QLD sun sits at 82 degrees all day long...

Ahhh hmmmm, yup mine is hte 1800 Roadsport, so that may be what it is, will wait and see, perhaps build some form of box and inlet around what I have.

I bought the whole caboodle including leather and all up it was great, but didnt look too closely at the particular bits, as it was nice to have a whole purpose built kit and essentially new seats....

On my K series basically the air intake is from the rear of the engine bay - I have improved it somewhat as originally it had what looked like rover original airbox/ filter housing over the front of gearbox and a scruffy pipe downwards sucking air up from the road - yup I know cool air is great but CLEAN cool air please....

So I compromised fitted  pod filter just before the throttle butterfly. - at least its clean but hottish as its from rear of engine bay and high.....

Is there a reversed air intake / plenum chamber available that will let me suck air from the front of the car?

I found both the Oxted kit and people awesome. One thing to check on while you're at it is the joints on the steel frame, couple of mine had collapsed (I'm not THAT fat honest) bit of careful TIG welding and good to go.

I ended up with 2 new relays and new wiring runs, still zilch, for some weird reason the relay in engine bay had switched power but no power feed I have no idea (premature alzheimers?) as to how that occurred but soon as rectified fires like a dream.

I guess when push comes to shove after hours of fiddling go back to basics and start again.
