By any chance can you remember where you found the nuts and bolts, I have the rubber mountings and found the metal plates.

I don't recall those being hard to find. Have you checked the fastener pack for the cooling system?

  2. Here are a couple of photos taken during my build that show the mounts in place.  As seen in the second photo, the factory didn't sufficiently bend the bracket to create a parallel mounting surface for the radiator, so that had to be done to fit.  It's a thick piece that took some persuasion to get right.

Assume you have a standard rollbar…. otherwise, if you’ve a track day one, you won’t be able to get the bolts in as the diagonal will get in the way and *will* have to remove it!

I used slightly shorter bolts which just squeezed in under the diagonal but were still long enough to extend past the chassis tube by ~4 threads.  The bolts supplied with my kit were much longer than needed.

  4. I fabricated a simple removable block off plate for the oil cooler to minimize its effect in road driving.  It seems to help, but it's still quite slow to warm up compared to my Westfield.  That car has a 230hp Duratec with Raceline wet sump, no oil cooler, and a much smaller radiator.  It's never had issues with high oil temps on the road, even in very hot weather, and operating oil temperature is also reached much more quickly. Factor in the Caterham's dry sump with extra oil capacity and the oil cooler, it seems overkill for the road.  The Laminova-style oil cooler, as mentioned in many threads on this subject, seems the best solution for road use.

  5. I had to place the throttle cable in a large figure 8 to run the linkage in the back but it's worked well thus far.  The lack of space in that area was certainly challenging, and it's even more so with your closer-to-stock setup.  Looking forward to seeing your final solution.

  6. I had trouble with the upper hose as well.  My set up is a little different than yours as I'm not using the submarine mount for the water temp sensor, the throttle linkage is on #3&4, and I'm using a different belt tensioner setup, but it might give you some alternate ideas.  The key for me was using a convoluted hose and printing a bracket to hold it in position.  Pictures and a few details are in this post:  https://usa7s.net/ips/topic/13992-520r-sv-build-has-commenced/?do=findComment&comment=134367

  7. An Admin can configure which editing functions show based on device size.  The default limits the options for small screens (i.e. mobile) given the limited space, but you can control which show.  You can also change carriage return behavior so that there is no extraneous line inserted.  Drop me a PM if you want me to walk you through the necessary steps in the admin console for either change.

I hadn't suspected Macs rather than iPhones/iPads and will follow that up

I did a little more digging and this is an iPhone setting that will transfer a photo in a compatible format when emailing or texting, which is another way of saying it will convert HEIC files to JPEGs given the former is not universally supported.  To enable this, go to Settings, then Photos, then at the bottom of the screen, set "Transfer to Mac or PC" to Automatic.

Perhaps you could explain how to do that from a modern iOS device.

I'm not a Mac user, but a simple online search revealed the following.  Might try that and report back to the group.  In my testing, the HEIC issue is not present when using an iPhone.  Just as they automatically change an HEIC file to a JPEG when emailing the image, they also upload them to the forum as a JPEG with no other changes. I'm not sure if I've simply been lucky or if that is consistent across Apple's mobile devices. I will say that in every instance where I've seen an HEIC file uploaded, logs show the device used was a Mac, not an iPhone.

You can convert HEIC images to JPEG format on a Mac using the built-in Preview app. Here are the steps:

    1. Open the HEIC image in Preview.
    2. From the top menu, select File and then Export.
    3. In the Export dialog box, select JPEG from the Format dropdown menu.
    4. Choose a location to save the new file and click Save.
  10. When searching for "Banner Battery model is 053 034", then clicking on "The phrase "Banner Battery model is 053 034"" located under the search box, since I know I'm searching for a specific phrase, I get the following.  Three results with the most recent on top.  Pretty good.  The key is to use those additional filters based on your search terms.  Are your search terms a specific phrase with the terms in that specific order?  Do the results need to include all the terms in any order?  Or are you just looking for as many of those words as possible?  Invision also provides other search filters when you click on "+ More search options" that further help you clarify what you are looking for.

That dropbox link fix does not result in my image inline, when I can correctly guess how to apply it as the "?" is not present in my links

dropbox links to a page where the image is displayed, not the actual image. Invision needs the image link.  As a workaround, I clicked on your first link, then right clicked on the image and selected open image in new tab.  I then copied the URL of the actual image from the new tab, then pasted in in the editing box and also tried it via the Other Media option.  Worked fine both times.

Are there any http sites anymore? It's certainly something I would be very suspicious of 🙂

Yes, mine 😮  I've been too lazy to deal with it, and yes, you should be suspicious of me.

BTW image URL insertion via the Other Media option works fine for me.

what's not working about adding images from URL. Here's an image I inserted from my website...

This may not be the issue, but I'll mention it since others may run into it.  Invision requires links from secure sites.  If you attempt to use a link with http rather than https, it will fail without giving a specific error.

  14. Windows 11 Dell Laptop and Dell monitor.  I tried both Edge and Firefox. I also tried an iPad and had the same results. Screenshot from the laptop below. The top item has been read and the second item has not.  I can empathize with the to-do list.  I moved a forum to Invision a few years ago.

  15. The unread dot before a thread title in Activity Streams is showing correctly, however, read content continues to show in bold text there and within the Forum view.  Default behavior for Invision is to unbold read content, making it easier to spot unread posts, so I'm not sure if this is a bug or an intentional choice.

When one hits a topic it opens the posting  below the last post on the topic so one has to scroll back  to find the start
of the posting to find out what the full question is ? The old version was the opposite so you read the heading and the topic message and thne scrolled down through responses

Is there a setting to adjust this

Click on your username in the upper right-hand corner, then Account Settings, then Content View Behavior on left side of Settings page, then select Take me to the beginning.

  17. I just completed a 420R SV build but swapped the standard engine for a 2.4L Duratec with Jenveys.  Although you didn't ask about fitment, I discovered the hard way that it does require some other changes to bolt on to the current models.  I'll share those in case that is news to you too.  None of these are difficult but they do require other parts.

    • The factory belt tensioner fouls the Jenvey's throttle shaft, and of course the TPS if you mount it to that side rather than the firewall end.  The fix is to use the manual tensioner available from Raceline, and possibly others, which in turn requires a shorter belt.
    • The Jenvey throttle linkage fouls the upper radiator hose.  I had to fabricate a new hose run to work around this and ensure the two would never touch.  There may be other throttle linkages available that won't have this issue but I already had the Jenvey linkage so didn't pursue other options.

Hopefully others can chime in to answer the questions you actually asked  :)

  18. The spacer should work.  If it's helpful, here are Ammo's instructions for setting the chain tension correctly which will determine the length of your spacer:

"Attached is a drawing that explains how to tension the chain. You basically fit it without the spring and plunger first and adjust the screw until the chain has 10mm movement between the sprockets. It must not be slack anywhere else. I press down hard with the heel of my hand on the chain between the sprockets so all, the slack is there. When the engine heats up you end up with 3mm movement which is about right."download_2.jpeg.fce5cb5502d32a34e5278c8e84c5cbdb.jpeg

Also, if interested, this post shows side-by-side photos of the stock and mechanical adjusters as well as other related information shared with me by Ammo, Raceline, and Esslinger:

  19. Regarding the mechanical tensioner, be aware of a warning Ammo Castellani, who started Raceco, shared with me several years ago.  New Duratec timing chains stretch.  Therefore, if one is used, a mechanical tensioner will require a re-tension which requires removing the engine cover -- i.e. major job. For this reason, he always installed a used chain when swapping to the mechanical setup.  Obviously this won't matter if you are keeping your current chain, but wanted to share the info just in case you end up with a new chain.
